THE STRENGTH OF POWER AND THE POPULARITY OF CONTROL

?Have you noticed the differences between the people who intensify power versus those of control?

Before we delve into how we see it in sports, let's take a quick look at history.  Some of the most popular people who are champions of manipulating control include: Napoleon, Hitler, Bin Laden, and the list grows every day. They rise against opponents, looking to win at all costs, as long as they remain safe, away from the heat.  You always hear about "being in control" but, you also hear about "losing control". When an athlete looks to take control of the game, they may strive to run the show but ultimately, end up struggling with consistency and playing to their competitor's level. This is because When someone whose goal is to control, what do they do when they realize the situation (game, moment of play, etc) is out of their control? They seek to follow the person or organization who IS in control. Therefore, using up more energy to keep up with their opponent, always falling behind.

When we look at those who choose to intensify power, these are the ones who look to display their abilities, AND bring out the best in others by empowering them. LeBron James, Wayne Gretzky, Derek Jeter are some of the athletes who have helped their teams to many victories.  Athletes who use their abilities to help others have nurtured their own needs to a point where they can successfully engage with the rest of the team, making other athletes, coaches, etc. better at their duties, to bring more successes to each person.  When you choose empowerment, others will help come together with you, to help obtain your goal(s).

When you see the legacies left by those in control, there're feelings of heaviness, and fear.  Looking at those of empowering legacies lead to a lightness and a smile on one's face.  Both have their struggles but looking at each one, it's obvious which one creates more energetic drive.  When you're playing, and your struggling to compete against your opponent, coming together in an empathetic manor, using your team's best assets to their fullest, will garner the will you need to bring more success to your team.

“People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society.”

~Vince Lombardi
