STRATEGY AT THE HEART OF RECENT NEW WINS FOR CHURCH+STATE
Toronto, ON, August 6, 2020 - Canadian advertising may have decreased by close to 50% during the pandemic but Toronto-based agency Church+State has been awarded a remarkable 10 new assignments since it transitioned away from its Liberty Village office to work remotely. Many of them are brand strategy and business consulting assignments that also include supporting communications work instead of the other way around.
“Some organizations need to drastically change because of pandemic implications to their business and some are using this time as an opportunity to recalibrate for the new opportunities ahead,” says Daniel Langer-Hack, Chief Strategy Officer of Church+State. “Marketing can drive this transformation and we’re just thrilled to help lead it.”
In all of its work, Church+State uses the “Think Do Say” operating system outlined in founder Ron Tite’s book of the same name. It makes unique connections between purpose, actions, and communications.
“The simplicity of the framework allows for great granularity in specific areas,” says Robin Whalen, Church+State’s President & CEO. “If it’s a traditional creative campaign, we spend more time creating the ‘Say’. But in the strategy and consulting work, we spend far more time on a refreshed and relevant purpose - the ‘Think’ - and generating actions that fundamentally transform the business - the ‘Do’.”
The consulting work started last year when the agency was tapped to transform the set of Home Shows owned by BILD.
“Initially, we asked them to help us with a new campaign but they told us we needed to fix the product first. And they were right,” says the Home Show’s Managing Director, Duncan Payne. “We spent close to a year completely transforming the business and then created new brand communications to match.”
Since COVD hit, the agency has won assignments for software company Condo Control Central, Colio’s new wine “Unwined", MediaSmarts, realtor Signature Realty, Gillis Sales, alternative asset manager Picton Mahoney, 2 personal brand design projects through its Unison division, an assignment to create a brand for a family law start-up, and most recently, Scouts Canada, TruShield Insurance, and Canada Health Infoway
"Like many businesses, we wanted to use this time to recalibrate for a new world and to ensure we were identifying and prepared to pursue emerging opportunities," said Tammy Gillis, Founder and CEO at Gillis Consulting and Training. “Church+State really broadened our thinking, identified completely new revenue streams, and simplified and optimized our communications to further differentiate our competitive positioning in the market. We’re already implementing many of their recommendations.”
