The last week of June I was in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the Building Business Capability Conference . It's?a conference I have been speaking at for 13 years, which combines Business Architecture, Business Analysis, Business Process, and Business Rules disciplines into a single conference.
The theme of the week was no mistake, it was about making sure as analysis professionals we are enabling strategy to execution with our analysis. This doesn't happen by mistake. It's a conscious effort we make in how we do our work that aligns the executives strategic intent with the details of the team executing.
So, where does this fit into your world?
A powerful technique to use to help connect the leadership strategy to execution is by using an Impact Map. Here is a video from my LinkedIn Learning Agile Analysis Weekly Tips Course explaining this technique:
Connecting this to things like, Increase revenue, and decrease costs to tangible work outputs is possible, it just takes analysis! Product Owners and Business Analysts (and many other titles/roles) are in the right place to do this work!
Along with Impact Mapping, it helps for the team to be fully transparent on what the working hypotheses is they are executing on. This often goes unknown, not discusses and not a shared conscious understanding. But, with a shared and conscious understanding of this, the team can truly thrive! Here is an example of a Hypothesis:
We believe that if we add a feature to our mobile app for customer to self-manage their address information, they will use the mobile app to self service and make the change instead of calling into the call center. By users using the mobile app or website to change their own address we can reduce cost. Today, about 50% call into the call center to change their address, and 50% go to the website, in the future we believe adding this feature to the mobile app will increase this number by 25%, reducing costs by 50% in this area.
When a team has a great hypotheses, they can work on experiments to get them closer to solving the opportunity. Here is a short video from one of my LinkedIn Learning courses about Hypotheses and Experiments.
Are you ready to dig in and truly help your organization and team align strategy to execution?
