A Strategy Against Corona?

The University of California (UCLA) has done a very simple but eye-opening study…
It took a group of people and let them sleep only 4 hours for 1 night. Just 1 night.
And then they measured how the activity of their immune system changed.
In detail: they analysed how the natural killer cells activity (our body’s secret agents who protect us from virus cells and the like) developed.
The result was shocking – after just 1 night of 4 hours of sleep the natural killer cells dropped its activity by 70%.
SSEEVVEENNTTYY PERCENT!
This is a concerning state of immune deficiency and the level of people who are decades older. It’s like running around almost unprotected. A state like this makes us soooo much more vulnerable to catching viruses and becoming ill.
What does this mean for protecting ourselves from the Corona virus?
Well we cannot say yet that sufficient sleep and especially deep sleep (where our immune system kicks into high gear) really protect us from the Corona virus.
But what we can say is this:
- Corona is way more dangerous for older people because their immune system is weaker than those of the younger
- Sufficient deep sleep puts our immune system in the strongest state it can be (while short sleeping weakens it significantly – see study results above)
- A strong healthy immune system is one the single best weapons we have to fight against the Corona virus (along with some measures to not even catch it, like a proper hand washing hygiene)
So why not put a little more emphasis on your deep sleep over the next weeks and months…?
On getting your 90 minutes of deep sleep every night that kick your immune system into the highest gear?
Why not stick a little more to those habits that make you sleep deeper like
- avoiding alcohol and big dinners close to bed time
- keeping your bedroom cool
- switching off your racing mind before you hit the sheets so you can get the highest quality sleep?
It'll make you sooo much stronger to fight of the corona virus, the flu and all other viruses around.
AND as a cool side effect: you'll rise & shine in the morning FULLY energized!
Not too bad is it?!

4 年We know very little about the disease and the side effects on the people after surviving the virus. However if our natural cells can bring more protection to our immune system then this study must be highlighted in the media ! thank you Chris !

4 年Panic is not dumb but human. However it also is not helpful either. Anxiety can be a helpful feeling as it hightens our awareness and attention to potential danger. Panic will make us more vulnerable as we literally losing our mind (ability to use our brain).
