Strategies for Navigating Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend.?As much of the country prepares to set our clocks back, many also worry?about how our bodies and minds will adapt to the shift and the darker days.
My approach to the clock changing is simple: Follow your body’s internal clock – your circadian rhythm – by sticking to your regular bedtime and wake time. It is not necessary to change your sleep schedule. Relax and trust your natural rhythm and remember it may take a few days to adjust — which is perfectly fine. Sleep Number’s 360 smart beds show how having a consistent bedtime and wake time can help improve your sleep quality over time.
Dark mornings can leave us feeling groggy so another strategy I use is to move into a well-lit area first thing in the morning. This sends a signal to your body that it is time to begin the day, especially if you rise before the sun as I do.?Fuel your energy throughout the day by spending time in natural light, even if it is only a 20-minute break.
Finally, our mindset plays a part in the way we adapt to the shorter winter days. For me, starting each day with gratitude, spending time in nature and prioritizing quality sleep – a natural mood booster – is a great foundation for seeking joy every day.
Sleep well, dream big!
