The Course Materials Corner with Dr. Mike Moore
In our last newsletter, I highlighted the need for more EdTech companies to dive into evaluating the long-term effectiveness of their solutions. I received a number of follow-up questions asking, "How does a company begin conducting this type of research?" It’s a great question and one that speaks to a broader need for strategic research in EdTech.
The first thing to consider is timing. How do you know when it's time to conduct research or evaluate the impact of your product or service? Ideally, the implementation plan with your campus partner includes specific language about collaborating on evaluation of the intervention over a certain period of time. Depending on your product or service, the impact may be in the first semester, or it may take two or three terms for the institution to realize benefits.
Whether it is market research or efficacy studies, you should begin those conversations as early as possible with the campus champion of your product or service. It may be difficult for you to get your hands directly on the information, especially if you are interested in information from the Student Information System. However, with a strong campus partnership, you may be able to get the Institutional Research office to work with you on study parameters and they will build the report for you. If you aren’t able to build that relationship for an efficacy study, the other option is market research. This is where PIP can support your efforts.
Partner in Publishing’s PIP INSIGHTS team can help you begin planning your market or efficacy studies. Our research experts will be able to help you craft the research agenda and build out your research questions. Let’s start your research journey together!
Looking forward to seeing you in the next edition of The EdTech Pulse.
