Strategies to grow your coaching practice

Ok, so it wasn't meant to be like this, I was meant to qualify, set up my profile, and clients would come! That's what most of us felt like when we qualified, and yet it's not really the reality.

Now as a coach we get bombarded with offers from people who can 10X our client base in 90 days no BS, no fees to pay upfront...blah blah blah... I received this very message today, right in my inbox.

Tip: Accept that this is just part of the process, and don't make judgements.

After all they are just growing their business just like you. You do not have to reply, or just be polite, say not today thank you, and move on.

Focus on your needs, those of your business and those of your clients, and these messages will go into the abyss.

As coaches especially those of us that are relatively new in this space, make sure you are not are missing a trick. The whole point of being online is to form relationships and build trust, and yet, many of us just post and run. We think if we reach out to someone they will feel you are spamming them, well if you are not authentic then that is true, but our business will not build itself, and without connections and reaching out we stay static.

Follow this blue print.

Think about your online presence, and what you want it to look like and say. Look at your profile, does it tell people what you do? If not why not? Think about your target audience, if they came across your profile, would they identify with it.

  • How often do you post, are you consistent? That doesn't mean you have to post everyday, but people will start to look out for you.
  • Do you engage with comments? A like is not enough, engagement is needed to boost the algorithm.
  • That brings me to this point, do not chase the algorithm, you will lose, but track what posts people engage with.
  • Follow up when someone comments, ask for a conversation to find out more about what each other does.
  • There doesn't have to be an agenda, business is about building relationships.

Are you making time to actually build your business, and expand your network? It's the most crucial activity you can do. To make it more structured, here are some strategies to help.

  • Put time aside, purely for outreach and connection. If you struggle with this, then get support
  • Hit the connect button and when someone accepts send a genuine message.
  • Set a small target, do not overwhelm, three messages five days a week, that's 15 per week, 60 per month. 720 per year!
  • What is your mindset around selling? because, if its blocked in some way, then this will be stopping you from reaching business potential, and attracting paying clients.
  • Find three groups, 1 where you feel supported and can show your expertise, and two where your ideal clients hang out, comment and interact. become the go to person for what you do.

You really do not have to oversell, but you do have to ask the question, are you interested in finding out more? would you like to have a further discussion? Can I keep in touch?.

One of the biggest things you can do for your business, and attract clients is to grow your email list. You do not own your audience, but you do your email list. It's a space to nurture, genuine relationships, show people what you do, and support them with your services, as and when they need them.

If you are authentic, they will reach out when they need you, or when you approach them, it's not awkward.

Ask yourself this question: What would really help my audience, what is there real challenge. How can I help. When you have this figured out, you can produce something of real quality and value, that they will appreciate, and in return give you their email.
