For many years, during school drop-off, I'd send my son off with a smile and this mantra: "Have a great day. Be a good friend. And learn a lot!"
While it sounds simple and elementary, this advice applies just as well to the professional world—both in person and online. Let me explain.
We're all busy trying to accomplish more with less to meet our goals. But achieving success isn't just about checking off tasks on a to-do list or managing projects in software. There’s a softer, more human and intuitive side to it as well.
Success comes from many factors, and often, the most elusive are the "squishy," hard-to-quantify outcomes. Unless, of course, you have a plan. Recently, while researching AI tools and reading one of my regular email newsletters, AI Tool Report, a section on Prompt Engineering caught my eye. The assignment? "How to build a professional network using ChatGPT." Interesting.
Willing to give it a try, I first identified my professional persona, and then I typed the following into my personal ChatGPT account:
"What are some effective networking strategies for building professional connections?"
What came back were some smart, clear tactics. Now, this isn't to say I hadn’t considered these strategies before, but the instant creativity and response got me excited—it felt like a solid plan.

Effective Networking Strategies for Building Professional Connections in Media and Marketing
Overall, this exercise was a great reminder that I'm on the right track, and it gave me confidence in my networking strategies. It took me back to the advice I gave my son at the start of each school day. I’ve always been excited by the smart marketers I meet and the industries they shape. But I'm reminded that every day is a great day when I make new friends and learn a lot!
Some advice? Try new things. Get inspired. Then put your newfound knowledge into practice. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to create a future filled with possibilities!
