Strategies Against COVID-19 part 3

In times like this, when jobs are shut down and you’re shut inside your home and feeling shut out from the world, it’s easy to become so emotionally devastated that you consider desperate — and sometimes deadly — ways to deal with all that’s going on.

The only real defense against COVID-19 is your own immune system, which works best when fed right. While changing your diet is a commonsense solution for the long term, a rapid-response strategy would be to use vitamin C

Vitamin C strengthens your immune system and kills pathogens, including viruses, when taken in high doses

Other important immune boosting nutrients are vitamin D, magnesium and zinc

A Korean doctor who’s giving patients and hospital staff 100,000 IUs of vitamin D and 20 to 24 grams of vitamin C by IV reports virus-infected patients are getting well in a matter of days

If you own a sauna, now’s the time to put it to regular use. By increasing your core body temperature, which is what happens when you have a fever, your body becomes more efficient at killing pathogens

In this interview, repeat guest Dr. Andrew Saul, editor-in-chief of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service, reviews what we currently know about vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for the prevention and treatment of novel coronavirus COVID-19.

As noted by Saul, much of the information about vitamin C for the coronavirus is currently coming out of China.

NY Hospitals Using Vitamin C for Seriously Sick Patients

In a move based on reports coming out of China, a pulmonologist in Long Island, New York, is treating intensive care patients with high-dose, intravenous vitamin C.

“Each dose is more than 16 times the National Institutes of Health’s daily recommended dietary allowance of vitamin C, which is just 90 milligrams for adult men and 75 milligrams for adult women,” the New York Post said.

Chinese doctors have been reporting success with the protocol with their patients,

The corona virus is creating yet another type of crisis — a shortage of blood donors. MSN reports that the American Red Cross is now facing a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during this corona virus outbreak.

The American Red Cross is urging healthy, eligible individuals to schedule a blood or platelet donation appointment today. Donating blood a single time may help save the lives of up to three people.

Thank you …Is Social Distancing Here to Stay?

It appears that social distancing in one form or another has the potential to be around a lot longer than we think.

No matter where you look — social media, TV, radio or streaming services — the predictions for deaths due to COVID-19 are dire. If the numbers are correct, then millions upon millions of people are destined to die before the pandemic is over.

But are these dire death predictions on-track?

According to an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, they’re not only grossly inflated, but biased in the way prognosticators are configuring the numbers.

Sauna Bathing Lowers Risk of Viral Illness

A number of studies have investigated the antiviral effects of sauna bathing. For example, a clinical study6 involving 50 volunteers showed regular sauna bathers had half the rate of common cold compared to nonusers.

This makes sense, considering sauna use will kill bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses and boost your immune function by increasing white blood cell, lymphocyte, neutrophil and basophil counts.

As noted by DiNicolantonio,7 “prospective studies8 [show] that those who use a sauna ~2-3 times per week have a lower risk of getting colds, influenza and pneumonia.”

A recent Chinese investigation suggests COVID-19 is highly sensitive to high temperatures and spreads faster in colder climates; its most rapid spread is occurring at a temperature of 8.72 degrees Celsius (47.7 degrees Fahrenheit)

Fever is a core mechanism by which your body fights viral infection. You can simulate a fever by raising your core body temperature in a sauna, steam bath, or by engaging in physical movement to induce sweating

A number of studies have investigated the antiviral effects of sauna bathing. For example, a clinical study involving 50 volunteers showed regular sauna bathers had half the rate of common cold compared to nonusers. Those who use a sauna at least two or three times per week also have a lower risk of influenza and pneumonia

Sauna use kills bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses and boosts your immune function by increasing white blood cell, lymphocyte, neutrophil and basophil counts. By elevating your core temperature your body also releases heat shock proteins that help block the replication of influenza viruses.

Want to add word or two?

Corona viruses (as a general group) incubate in your sinuses for about three days before moving down into your lungs, and appears to be destroyed by temperatures around 133 degrees F (56 degrees Celsius), which can easily be reached in a sauna

There is still much we do not know about the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, but researchers are starting to piece the puzzle together as we go along. For example, a recent Chinese investigation suggests COVID-19 is "highly sensitive" to high temperatures and spreads faster in colder climates; its most rapid spread is occurring at a temperature of 8.72 degrees Celsius.

The researchers recommend countries with colder climates "adopt the strictest control measures" to limit the spread of the disease. Hassan Zaraket, assistant director of the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research at the American University of Beirut,

Could These Herbs Be the Answer to Coronavirus?

As coronavirus spreads around the world and in the U.S., scientists are exploring the possibility that four common herbs might be the answer to possible prevention or even a cure for the novel virus.

According to CyprusMail, in previous experiments with another type of coronavirus — SARS — extracts of licorice, sweet wormwood, aromatic evergreen and a fern had dose-dependent results in fighting SARS. “In particular, Lycoris radiate (licorice) exhibited the most potent...

Do face masks work?

Medical experts explain protect yourself from corona virus

I see this as an exercise in fear and control, I also see it as a way of avoiding other pressing issues around the World .

I also see it as a last ditch because once this has started there is no going back, the narrative is set and has to continue and the fear ramps up. However, someone hasn't read their Shakespeare; 'in time we hate that which we often fear'

I'm seeing panic and fear and the beginnings of anger. I also think this is bringing to the fore a great feeling of inequality and disconnection. People who have cash or rather credit are buying up the food stocks (and the masks) and others are making huge profits both on the stock markets and in the market place., others are already heading towards further crippling debt and bankruptcy.

Above all there is a complete lack of common sense, logic and 'proof', what are the tests for this disease, how many COVID-19 figures are actually due to other respiratory ailments, pollution, smoking and general ill-health? I don't know for certain about the manufacture of COVID-19 but the creation of fear is palpable.

Epidemiologists and infectious disease experts have been at pains to emphasize against an unwarranted scramble for face masks in recent weeks.

South Korea, Italy and Iran have all recorded sharp upticks in cases of the coronavirus in recent days, with many other countries imposing travel restrictions on virus-hit areas worldwide.

Infections have now been reported in every continent except Antarctica.

Nice overview. If hand wash works why not complete body bath scrub with soap? My natural doubt

RNA ('RiboNucleic Acid' ) vaccines are faster and cheaper to produce than traditional vaccines, and a RNA based vaccine is also safer for the patient, as they are not produced using infectious elements Production of RNA vaccines is laboratory based, and the process could be standardised and scaled, allowing quick responses to large outbreaks and epidemics The coronavirus vaccine may be the first genetically engineered messenger RNA vaccine to be fast tracked to licensure The FDA has not yet licensed messenger RNA vaccines that use part of the RNA of a virus to manipulate the body’s immune system into stimulating a potent immune response There likely will be lots of questions about whether the fast-tracked coronavirus vaccine was studied long enough to adequately demonstrate safety
