#StrategicAutonomics: Q... for Quantum
Quantum technologies will empower us to achieve the inconceivable: look far beneath the ground or under the sea, perform complex computational tasks like modelling biomolecular and chemical reactions, diagnose diseases more quickly and accurately. ??
Quantum has the potential to revolutionise everything: from computing to cybersecurity, from communication to defence.?
Europe is once again taking a leading role in the second quantum revolution, just as it did at the inception of the 20th century during the first quantum revolution, with notable figures such as Born, Einstein, Heisenberg, Pauli, Planck, and many others.?
Today, we have the highest concentration of quantum graduates, lead in quantum publications and have a growing portfolio of quantum patents – after China and Japan, but ahead of the US.?
We want Europe to be the world’s “quantum valley” to consolidate our research excellence, industrialise it, scale it up and create lead markets.?
This strategy – to be announced in a few weeks – will look into specific actions and objectives in four key applications: Quantum Computing building on the EuroHPC, Quantum Communication building on EuroQCI and IRIS2 ?, Quantum Sensing (clocks, gravinometres, atom nterferometers, gyroscopes)…?
And also Post Quantum Cryptography to be able to continue protecting our exchanges on the internet at a time when the RSA code is at risk of being broken by upcoming quantum computing. ??
In the race to quantum supremacy, it is time to join forces between Member States on all these aspects so that Europe capitalises on its research excellence to lead the quantum revolution.?

1 年Wowwwwhhhh That is the 4th post this morning coming out of Mr. Breton’s office. AI, military independence, windmills, quantum computing….. Has he delivered anything?

1 年Thierry Breton - fully agree on the potential for #quantumtechnologies to revolutionize many aspects of our life & business in the mid- and long-terms, and the potential for #EU to play a key role on that. On the other hand, when you talk about the EU becoming the world's "quantum valley", which one do you refer to? Munich Quantum Valley, Quantum Valley Lower Saxony, Quantum Delta NL, or some other one I've forgotten? Could the EU be overly spreading its efforts? More competition than collaboration between Member States? Regarding #postquantumcryptography, it's hard to argue that it's not the US leading the pack with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) setting standards - as an EU citizen, I'd like to see more clearly our leadership, not in number of graduates, but in number of successful companies, high-value quality jobs created.

1 年Dear Thierry Breton, we are very curious and excited to here more about the new #strategy for #quantum ... which will be announced in a few weeks ??

1 年It is not nice to illude EU citizens that we are on track not only to equal great powers but to globally lead on quantum. If we had more honesty about where we stand in the digital world and the huge weakness of our institutions due to the unanimity requirement, we could at least do what is actually doable and most critical to protect us, ditching any aspirations to commercially lead in the world. .
