#StrategicAutonomics: G... for Gigabit
Gigabit for everyone!
The EU has set the target of ensuring affordable, high-speed and secure connectivity for everybody and everywhere in Europe by 2030, while promoting a neutral and open Internet where content, services, and applications are not unjustifiably blocked or degraded.
The Gigabit Infrastructure Act will significantly increase the reference speed from 30 megabits per second to 1 gigabit per second and double the kilometres of gigabit networks to be deployed by 2030.
New buildings and those undergoing major renovation will have to be pre-equipped with fibre optic connections.
Administrative costs and procedures for the deployment of connectivity infrastructure will be streamlined.
Operators will more easily access and use physical infrastructure such as masts, towers and other supports.
But much more is needed.
The cloud, the metaverse, quantum, artificial intelligence… all these technologies are leading to a radical transformation of the connectivity sector.
Stay tuned for next steps on how we can enable telecoms operators to improve access to the Single Market and achieve the right scale and conditions to sustain the investments in the network infrastructure of the future in an efficient and timely manner.
A "Telecoms Act" is in the making, a new industrial approach to leverage the strength of the Single Market also in the sector which is the enabler of all digital services, markets and technologies – the connectivity sector.

1 年Could you please let the public know if this new proposal is accompanied by a public consultation and an impact assessment? If that is not the case, why is the Commission in breach with its own better regulation principles and due diligence standards? And if we are at it, why haven't you published the responses of the exploratory consultation that concluded in May? Never have we seen such a delay in the publication of consultation responses. Might the reason for all of that be that as former CEO of France Telecom you are not acting impartial on this issue? see https://www.asktheeu.org/en/request/all_replies_to_the_public_consul
We may be happy, happy and honored, to still have humans, conscientious people and visionaries as our leaders!
