Whether we’re leaders or individual contributors, we all want to be on an effective team.?One where we are reaching and exceeding goals.?Where everyone gets along, knows their roles, and outperforms others in the organization.?Maybe you envision your team as the benchmark of excellence!
Sadly, we typically don’t get what we want.?In fact, there are times we derail ourselves by wanting success so much that we focus too heavily on the final outcome and fail to build the foundation.
A leader must consider team building, team structure, and strategic planning in order to realize success. Especially in the newly designed hybrid work environment.
Have you found yourself asking your team about their role, responsibilities, and workload and noticing that everyone is working on the same mundane tasks? Or are unsure of what they’re working on? Or maybe you realized that no one is working on the projects that drive business growth??
Lacking ownership, responsibility, and accountability is a fundamental issue in teams and it stems from poor leadership. ?Regardless of your title, you are either a “leader” or a “manager.” Leaders strategically build teams.?Managers demolish them.?Leadership drives success, while management accepts the status quo. ??
In order to build your best organizational structure, you have to lead with intention.
Strategic team planning starts with understanding and communicating your team’s purpose and goals.
Clarify each individual’s role, responsibility, expectations, and goals.
