The Strategic Plan of God

In business, we face problems needing a solution each and every day.
Throughout my career, I have been called upon to develop strategic plans for a myriad of solutions across a wide range of industries.
Executives have entrusted me with identifying all the possibilities, narrowing them down to the most effective options, and selecting the most concise steps to solve everything from new product launches to technology platform upgrades and HR management systems to leadership development strategies.
In each of these, my mindset is always the same: solve the short-term problem with a long-term solution.
Delivering on this is an incredibly energizing experience, but the greatest joy is finding the solution that solves the problem in a brand new, innovative way that exceeds our expectations.
No matter what problem you are currently facing or how often you have faced that problem, you need to look no further for immediate inspiration, creativity, and fresh ideas for your strategic plan than the word of God.
The Bible is full of so many solutions, innovations, designs and plans that identifying them all is unfathomable. Here are just a few.
“When He set for the sea its boundary so that the water would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth; Then I was beside Him as a master workman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in the world His earth, and having my delight in the sons of men.”
Proverbs 8: 29-31
Consider God’s creation. The universe is the perfect environment that provides the earth with the exact amount of light, temperatures, water, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, and even seasons for life.
As we read in the previous verse, God even set a boundary for how far oceans and seas could extend upon the land. Every detail was created with such precision and beauty. Whether you sit in the mountains or at the beach, whether day or night, God’s strategic design speaks of His glory. Both the Old and New Testaments proclaim this truth.
“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.”
Psalm 19:1-2
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”
Romans 1:180-20
Creation itself declares the design of a Creator. Furthermore, consider the caterpillar’s transformation into a butterfly. In the cocoon, the caterpillar does not just die—it is completely liquified.? Amazing!? It does not simply lose legs, gain wings and a shortened body. From this liquid goo something completely different is formed into a brand-new creation.?
The old life of the caterpillar is gone, and a new life of the butterfly is given. God’s strategic design speaks of His power to redeem far more than caterpillars. By observing the Lord’s strategic plan for the caterpillar, we can see His strategic design for mankind—to bury our old, sinful life as dead, and form us into a new creation as redeemed of God.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgement, but has passed out of death into life.”
John 5:24
God’s strategic plan is to redeem what was lost and turn death into life. Over and over again throughout scripture, the strategic plans of God always solve the short-term need with long-term solutions—case in point: the gospel.
From Adam and Eve onward to you and me, all have sinned against God, broken His righteous law, and fallen woefully short of the glory of God. Yet, by the grace of God, which we could never earn or deserve, God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for our sin.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Jesus shed His blood, laid down His life, and raised it up again three days later, thereby conquering death for all who believe.
He covered our sin with His precious blood and paid our death penalty by the grace, truth, and love of our perfect, righteous, and Holy Savior. (See Romans 3: 21-26.) This was His strategic plan from the very beginning.
As a Christian, you have access to the greatest strategist the world has ever known. Use that access!
Your Heavenly Father cares about you, and the work before you. Create strategic plans to address problems, harness opportunities,? and solve short-term needs with long-term solutions by:
1.????? Asking the Lord to teach you.
2.????? Trusting the Lord to show you.
3.????? Thinking beyond the natural.
Ask the Lord to Teach You
“Make me know your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day.”
Psalm 25: 4-5
Trust the Lord to Show You
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3: 5-6
Think Beyond the Natural
“And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He [Jesus] was speaking the word to them. And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men. Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Mark 2: 2-5
The natural, everyday ways to do things will always be crowded with people seeking an immediate, quick, short-term solution. Don’t be discouraged or persuaded by the crowds.
Go beyond. Be willing to climb up on the roof to find a new way to apply your faith in your daily work and life.
Look to the Lord above who operates in the spiritual realm with His all-knowing view. He is willing to teach us and show us how to solve our everyday earthly problems with inspired long-term solutions for His glory. Do your work as unto the Lord for His glory.
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”
Colossians 3: 4-5
The next time you are developing a strategic plan, take a moment to look at the beach, sky, butterfly, or the gospel design, and remember that the Lord can use your strategic plan not just to solve the current need, but to impact lives far beyond anything you could dream or imagine.
