Growing traffic volumes and the need for more sustainable means of transportation has increased the importance of a well-functioning railway – now and in the future. Sustainability is considered one of the main global challenges in the world and is an important aspect of transport development. The railway industry is no different.??
To make our railways greener and more sustainable, a new approach is needed. Lots of materials are used to build and maintain rail networks which in turn produce a lot of waste. Switches in railway turnouts are one of the weakest links in rail infrastructure. Additionally, the safety standards are extremely high and even the smallest deviations will disrupt traffic flow or cause accidents.
The digital solution, TrackSwitch360, developed by Railmonitor ApS combines information from mechanical behavioral to data, like, rail temperature, switch speed, switch position, switch gap, and train traffic.
By combining and interpreting all this data driven information, early failures can be detected in switches in railway turnouts. Early failure detection will result in a more reliable and cost-effective railway. This will, expectedly, increase the life cycle of the turnout.??
