The Strategic Advantage of Women Leaders

Multiple research studies report that diversity, including gender diversity, “offers a strategic advantage, especially at the leadership level” (KPMG Women’s Leadership Study, 2015).

Progress towards gender diversity is slow. In 2021, we celebrate our first woman, and woman of color, Kamala Harris, as Vice President of the United States. Yet only 25% of the U.S. Congress is female, while women represent 50% of the U.S. population. Women hold only 29% of senior management roles (Catalyst, 2019). Women have more post-graduate degrees than men*, yet many are missing the leadership skills to help them achieve their full potential.

If organizations are at a strategic advantage when there are more women in leadership, what can your organization do to move more women up the ladder?

The George Washington University's Center for Excellence in Public Leadership supports individual leaders and organizations through its Executive Women’s Leadership Program, which provides women with the leadership skills to help them achieve their full potential.

These are skills that are not addressed in a typical general leadership training. Our program addresses the underlying challenges and personal barriers that typically hold women back at work more so than men. This includes addressing the social and cultural stereotyping that impacts women. Effective communication, leadership presence, relationship building, growth mindset, and confidence are but a few of the skills that are a part of this high-impact program.

It’s time for women leaders to step into their power to make every organization a more effective organization. Here’s how:

No question about it...diversity, equity and inclusion is not only fair and just, it’s smart for business too.
