The Lay Off, Paid Off!

It paid off—My determination, grit, and strategic advantage paid off.

Like many project professionals, I have experienced project closures, with the PMO either being dissolved or absorbed by another department. I have been there. I experienced burnout, but before embarking on this quest for a fulfilling career, I realized there was more to my project management and leadership skills. I needed a strategic advantage, which I created to carve a niche for myself.

Being laid off paid off!

Did I tell you that this little girl ???Fola F. Alabi from Africa is becoming an Author? Dreams do come true.

Having had the privilege to be in rooms where strategic decisions were made, I consistently noticed a theme: strategies were designed, but when the execution took place, ideas, perspectives, and business positioning often shifted. I wondered why there were silos. Leaders made decisions in a vacuum; I never saw anyone from the execution team or PMO leaders present.

I realized a paradigm shift was needed. Project teams are often seen as executive foot soldiers rather than strategy drivers and business partners. They were perceived as just tactical resources that weren’t strategic enough

This realization led to the birth of 'The Strategic Project Leader,' a boutique consulting firm designed to create a strategic advantage for professionals and business leaders. Upon digging deeper, I found that this formula applies in life too and fuels global economies.

The moral of this story is that my lay-off paid off. Today I have all these behind my name:

1. Founded 'The Strategic Project Leader' - Created a boutique consulting firm to provide strategic advantages for professionals and business leaders.
2. Global Speaker and Trainer - Speak and train on a global stage, sharing insights and strategies in project management and leadership.
3. University Lecturer - Teach at a local university, imparting knowledge and inspiring future leaders.
4. Parenting Achievements - Expanded family, overcoming previous obstacles related to burnout.
5. High-Value Opportunities - Secured engagements that offered compensation equivalent to a month’s salary in just one hour.
6. Doctorate Candidacy - Enrolled as a Doctorate Candidate, class of 2026, pursuing advanced education in my field.
7. Diplomatic and Leadership Engagements - Interviewed and spoke with ambassadors, global leaders, and CEOs, influencing global strategies.
8. Founded NoGap Foundation - Established a non-profit organization aimed at creating economic and social impact for women, youth, and visible minorities.
9. Author - Authoring a book and co-authoring two. My upcoming book set to release in 2024: "Goals to Result - The Strategic Advantage": Simple Ways to Achieve Big Goals."The Project Detective": An adventure with strategy, execution, and mindblowing results. The Green PMO is co-authored by other thought leaders globally.
10. Mentorship - Actively mentoring individuals, helping transform lives through personal and professional development.

Three of my books will be released in 2024. To sweeten it, my daughter and son are co-authors of 'The Next-Generation Strategic Project Leaders.' The Project Detective' narrates an adventure with strategy, execution, and mindblowing results.

The key strategy that helped when times were tough was for me to just START.
