The Stranger Who Added Joy To My Life.
It is amazing when you meet someone for the first time, how free they suddenly become because you complement them genuinely or perhaps due to experience of similar circumstances.
This picture was taken at the lab. during my Ph.D research work on a memorable day, a graduation day at the University of Johannesburg.
At about 5 pm on my way home that day, I met a lady who encouraged me with her words to finish my Ph.D. I think she was Gods Angel because I never saw her again afterwards but she left me with words of encouragement and released joy into my life.
I saw how she focused on the book she was holding while walking opposite direction. What caught my attention was her continuous smile as she gazed through the cover of the book in her hands.
I wanted to know why she was smiling at that particular time when I was tired of lab. work, no smile, no joy and I said to her without a smile “that book must be interesting. She stopped, looked at me and continued to smile and said “I never knew I could make it but I did”. Before I could say a word, she followed up with her next “someone told me that I will not be able to complete my academics due to poor performance at the beginning of my study”. Tears came down below her eyes as she said this and the next seconds she was all smiles.
A closer gaze at the book in her hand, I noticed a graduation booklet and I knew instantly that her name must have been published among the successful graduates despite all she had passed through and that is the reason she is so happy. I congratulated her and continued my way home with the powerful experience and a contagious smile with activated hope to finish soon.
One year later my name was published in the same book that looked exactly like what she was holding on that particular day.
This morning, as I was searching for a book, I saw the graduation booklet, I glanced through to see my name, smiled and the great memories flashed back.
Why am I sharing this?
It does not matter how you start, what matters is your courage and determination to continue and eventually finish.
What people say about you due to your present circumstances does not even matter, what matters is what you say to yourself.
I have been told several times that I will not be able to get some task done, at the end the tasks gets done to my surprise and I give God the glory.
You will surely make it, no matter what it takes.
Have a blessed day.
