Strange Things Happen During Oilfield Slowdowns – Be Very Flexible!! In Jan 2002, The Company I was working for decided not to honor our written contract, So I quit them, They thought I would return working for them even after they broke our agreement!! I lined up 5 job interviews in Lafayette, La , I drove from Midland , Texas to Lafayette, La (760 miles)Upon arriving in Lafayette, I was informed by 4 of the 5 companies that our interviews were cancelled due to hiring freezes put in effect that day, I still had one interview remaining with Expro, The next day I arrived at my Interview and was informed by the Expro manager that a hiring freeze was initiated earlier that morning! He called and referred me to Gordon Fryers with Scientific Drilling, I set up a interview with him that same day. We met and he informed me that they had some upcoming work in the next 1-2 weeks, I returned home to Midland, TX and immediately packed my offshore bag in faith!!! Gordon Fryers called me about a week later and asked me if I could be at the Midland airport in 1 Hr – I assured him I would be there! He picked me up at the Lafayette airport and took me to a hotel, We went over the jobs I was to do. He came and picked me up the next morning and took me to the Heliport. I flew out and did a couple of jobs for Noble Energy on a contract basis! (A Buildup Test & A Drawdown Test with memory recorders) The jobs went very well. I returned to the Scientific Shop in Lafayette, La and worked on my reports (A lot of Analysis and Plotting work) it took 26 continuous hrs to complete those reports!! I turned in the reports and was immediately offered a full time position for excellent pay!! I continued to work there for nearly 3 yrs! I only left because my mother became gravely ill in Midland, Texas! I will be eternally gratefull to Gordon Fryers and Kevin Kemmerly for taking a chance on me! I did my utmost to do both of them proud during my time with Scientific Drilling!!!! Sometimes all doors are closed except the one God opens for you!!!!
