The Strange Resurrection of the Two-State Solution
How an Unimaginable War Could Bring About the Only Imaginable Peace
On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled a blueprint for postwar Gaza that proposed indefinite Israeli military control of the strip. The plan, which would effectively rule out Palestinian statehood in the near term, highlights the gap between Netanyahu and the Biden administration, which has asserted its support for the two-state solution—a call that has been echoed by other leaders in the Middle East, Europe, and around the world.
Amid mounting international pressure for Palestinian statehood, the Biden administration must use its leverage over Israel to transform the two-state solution from a talking point to a reality, writes former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk. “Biden should make clear the choice facing Israelis,” Indyk writes. “They can continue on the road to a forever war with the Palestinians, or they can embrace the U.S. ‘day after’ plan”—one that would “hold out the hope of an enduring peace.”

1 年I really hope people can put their critical thinking hats while reading this. Insane how a “foreign affairs magazine” glosses over the actual affairs part. When did journalism turn back to yellow? Or lol more realistically, was Certain outlets always a weighted dice only showcasing sympathy toward the side with the most pew pews

1 年The so-called Two-State Solution is not real, and it will never be. Those who call for it are not serious people.

1 年I think before a two state solution or one state solution, there needs to be change in Israeli state and society that recognizes Palestinians deserve equal rights, justice, have right to land, water and other resources and that they are not just some animals or sub humans who deserve to die. On the other side, a strong, uncorrupt and and united Palestinian leadership, a strong Palestinian Authority not dependent on Israeli occupation forces or powers or donors who are unreliable. A Hamas which can come out of just being a resistance fighting force to be willing to come to the negotiating table for a long term solution with the Israelis and not just see resistance fighting as the only solution. For this the multilateral international structure and the powers that have influence on both parties need to exercise their powers to promote diplomacy and a long term solution rather than blindly militarily, economically and diplomatically supporting Israel. Iran which has been excluded from many peace processes needs to be included and recognized that it is the key to the solution in Israel, Palestine but also Israel Lebanon, Yemen and the Red Sea region and in Syria as well as in Baluchistan region in Iran and Pakistan.

1 年I asked my brothers and sisters from Israel in the Martinist order if such a scenario is possible in Israel to create two States to overcome this crisis and the best comment I received: "Before offering a solution to the problem, you need to give a diagnosis of the problem in order to make treatment decisions based on the diagnosis." (Lev) I would appreciate any thoughts on this: What is the main problem in this crisis?
