Strange Bedfellows
The temps being well above freezing early this morning, was a welcome relief from recent mornings, and with the wind still coming at us from a southerly direction, we should be sailing towards a pleasant weekend ahead, which I'll be thankful for because I've got some outdoor work that must be completed in a warmer window of time.
With it being the first days of the month, I had bills to pay and bank visits to make, along with getting some errands run which included placing a sold sign on one of my listings. I'm still in a bit of disbelief we're in the first days of the eleventh month of this year, and considering the various issues I've had to deal with, I'll be glad when 2024 arrives, just so I can fully-wash myself of a few unfortunate events of this year.
On the positive side of this year's happenings, I did manage to shed a handful of strange bedfellows whom I decided were not the type you'd want to consider being even passing acquaintances, and only because of their vacillating dualities which were rather un-nerving at times. Yes, the more we rid ourselves of such relationships, allows for others with finer characters to enter in, and I've already found several slowing moving in my direction. Yes, darned good people are hard to come by, and especially those who place the almighty dollar ahead of God and man. As I mentioned just this morning to a clerk who'd finally finished dealing with a very naughty person whom I've actually crossed paths with, I said, "When do such people finally realize that they've got expiration dates like all the rest of us?" He laughed as he replied, "The likes of him'll never realize it until they wake up one morning and find themselves dead." I couldn't help agreeing because I have a 'reli' out East with the same punitive mindset and will continue being that way even after the last breath's taken."
There are weekend showings scheduled for several of my listings, and one of them is for 315 Parkridge Drive which is long-overdue for a good offer. While I was checking on it yesterday, I looked around while whispering to myself, "My gosh! What's wrong with some of these buyers?" I thought for sure a certain buyer was going to purchase it, but I later found out a buyer's agent managed to plug that poor soul into a home I'd not walk from, but rather run in the opposite direction. Of course it's another lipsticked pig which I still remember showing a good six years ago, and at the time, I told my buyer there were too many half-hidden structural issues going on with it. Without saying anything more, I suspect there was some extra subtle 'pushing' that was going on. As they've said, a fool and his money will soon be parted.
Around mid-morning, I received a call from a long-time client/friend whom I'd not spoken with in many months, and the creepiest thing about that call, was my recently have random thoughts about her. Unfortunately she had some bad news to share regarding some serious issues that are going on in her life, and just in passing, she was saying she needed to purchase an item that would help with ambulatory issues, and as chance would have it, I had in my storage room, exactly what she needed, so I encouraged her to come and get it, so about 15 minutes later she arrived. Oh my goodness! She must've lost a good thirty pounds since I last saw her, and when visiting with her about it, there's no question, much of her weight loss was stress related.
For whatever reason, there've been times in the past when she would come to me for personal advice rather than anyone else, and today happened to be one of those occasions, and once she started opening up about her problems, it turned into a two hour session which I'll remain hopeful, my personal thoughts and suggestions were going to help her going forward. I was left almost speechless when she said, "For whatever reason, you've been the only one I feel comfortable with when talking about my personal problems." Before she left, she gave me a big hug and a genuine thanks for today's guiding words. After see left, there's no question I'll be adding her to my contemplative prayer chain. My heart goes out to those darned good people who're placed in long-term situations of suffering. Without a doubt, our visit ended up being the highlight of my day.
Once I had everything completed on the real estate side, I changed my clothes and headed over to a cleaning project which lasted a good three hours, and thankfully I managed to get nearly everything I wanted done, so all that'll be left, is to clean countertops and do a deep scrubbing of a large area of hardwood flooring. Yes, that home is gonna make someone a delightful place to call their own for hopefully an extended period of time. Since you've already come to the conclusion that I'm just a little bit out in the margins of general thought processing, I must confess there's a very positive and uplifting energy in that structure which has been there for over two decades, and the funny thing is, others have also felt it. I'm convinced it all goes back to my saying there's either cursed earth, regular earth, and blessed earth, which now prompts me to say again, that disgusting Southbridge Mall was built on cursed earth.
Just thinking back on the number of businesses that were 'strong-armed' into selling their buildings to make way for the building of that mall, I wouldn't be surprised that's when it became cursed. I'm sure only the older natives remember St. Vincent de Paul's thrift store being in one of those buildings which was situated on the west side of S. Federal, and I'm not so sure if it was several doors south of the Strand Theatre, and across the street from Raizes Department Store. The Raizes family definitely filled the needs of financially struggling families here in Mason City and North Iowa for generations, and yes, they too were 'encouraged' to sell-out and close their doors for the soon to be built mall. Isn't it interesting when thinking about all the failed businesses that've come and gone out of that structure?
