Stram's Salient Snippets
Back in another life, I was the News and Sports Director for WHB in Kansas City, then the dominant station in the market, and had a morning show with Chief's head coach Hank Stram.
Henry gained a measure of notoriety in 1970 when the network miked him for the Chief's blow-out Super Bowl against Minnesota and he, in a three piece suit, raced up and down the sidelines shouting, "just keep matriculating the ball down the field, boys."
Mornings, he had five cliches for any question I had. All these years later, the only one I remember was Stram's saying, "You can't concern yourself with things you can't control." And it's as true today, 50 years later, as it was then.
Not sure how Hank would have handled this year's blowout loss to Philadelphia except to say, "Bud, you can't concern yourself with things you can't control."

1 个月Bud Carter, great insight as always. Your post reminded me of our podcast conversation—'if you can't change the people, change the people.' In this case, the offensive line simply didn’t hold up, offering little resistance against the Eagles' defense. Not taking anything away from Philly, but if you don’t protect your quarterback, you don’t stand a chance. Just brutal to watch. – Sev

1 个月Love it Bud Carter, we do lose sight of focusing too often on things we can't control, simple, but easier said than done at times. Thanks for sharing.
