Back in my opera days, I was invited to found an opera company to help young singers. But to launch it, I needed to raise $100,000. When speaking to potential donors, I talked about logistics, numbers, goals, and plans. They nodded politely… but no one reached for their checkbook.

That’s when I realized: I was telling the wrong stories.

What saved me was meeting a presentation skills trainer. She taught me how to craft stories that connected emotionally—stories about the lives we’d transform through opera and why our mission mattered. The same donors who had tuned out before were suddenly inspired, opening their wallets and their hearts.

The Tyrolean Opera Program ran for 11 years, and we changed lives.

However, over the course of those years, the market changed. It was time to leverage all that experience and pivot to coaching business leaders. The problem was, nobody outside the opera world understood what my job had been and why my experience was relevant.
