Storytelling Tips #2.

Storytelling Tips #2.

Welcome to Storytelling Tips, edition 2.

Actionable ways to level up your storytelling, with me, Maryam Pasha.

Spark wonder with The Pixar Pitch.

The ultimate storytelling tool to help you solve your writer's block...

Once upon a time… yep, you got it, this #StorytellingTip is all about how to nail your own Pixar Pitch.

Follow this formula to come away with your very own “Toy Story” movie pitch.

The Pixar Pitch is made up of six simple sequential sentences:

  1. ???????? ???????? ?? ????????
  2. ?????????? ??????….
  3. ?????? ??????…
  4. ?????????????? ???? ????????…
  5. ?????????????? ???? ????????…
  6. ?????????? ??????????????…

One thing I often say, is that you should start your planning with the third sentence, “one day…”, because this is the turning point in the story where something changed or something happened.

It helps you make sure you are centring the right content, but also WHERE to start the story.

????????: ?????? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ???? ?????????????????? ???????? ???????????????? ????????.

Remember to answer each prompt is one sentence – not five!

Be generous.

The best speakers are always generous to their audience...

"You do not have to be big to be powerful. You just have to find out how to be infectious.”

Last month TEDxLondon and The Conduit hosted Head of TED Conferences Chris Anderson , where we welcomed 200+ people to talk about Chris’s new book: Infectious Generosity.

Infectious Generosity is an idea I love, because it’s got optimism at the core of it. Choosing to see the best in people, and hoping that they see that back in you.

Chris also gave his four point guide to helping your big idea breakthrough:

1. ?????????? ??????????????. ??

“Emotion is the number one thing that drives virality.”

2. ???? ???????????????? ????????????????. ??

“Are you thinking outside the box enough? Are you being infectious enough? Try to really make a difference.”

3. ???? ????????????????????. ??

“Being willing to take risks and to go to a place of discomfort full stop courage leads to virality when it's done the right way."

4. ???? ??????????????????. ??

“Ask yourself, how can you be more audacious? Richard Rockefeller said, ‘all of the best donors I know are not inspired by small plans. Don't ask for less. Ask for more. Be audacious.’”

Learn how to turn life moments into stories.

"But I don't have a story!"

Even the phrase “tell us a story" can be enough to put most communicators into a state of panic.

So how do you get to a point where you can tell stories naturally?

Learn how to identify the moments you can turn into stories, why it’s not about “being inspiring”, and how to pull together your “tight five”.

Tune in mine and Simon Bucknall 's super handy?#SpeechlessPod episode?on how to craft moments into stories.

Here's how to turn moments into stories:

  1. ???? ???? ???????????????????

You may think a story has got to be something really dramatic and impressive. Relatable works better. Resist the urge to go into 'performance mode' – or the need to be really funny. Funny isn’t a shortcut to relatable.

2. ???????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ???????

Until you practice and test out stories in front of an audience, it can be hard to identity what's going to land. The more you test a story, the more it will evolve.

3. ???????? ?????????????? ?????? ????????

I think everyone struggles with that feeling of what they've got isn't good enough. Try to push past that initial trepidation. It gets better – promise!
