STORYCRAFT: Unlocking the Art of Storytelling

In January 2024, I and shatabhisha ray led a 10-day open elective course, "Introduction to the Art of Storytelling," for 75 fourth-semester product design students at Karnavati University's Industrial Design Department. The immersive program explored various storytelling methods, narration techniques, and effective communication strategies.

Divided into 15 teams of five, students were assigned to one of three categories: Puppet Show, pop-up books, or Board Game. Each team brought their chosen narrative to life through creative prototyping, culminating in an engaging exhibit/show titled "STORYCRAFT." The campus event received rave reviews, showcasing the students' innovative storytelling skills.

The course covered storytelling techniques, including oral, written, visual, and digital methods, and narration fundamentals. Students developed communication skills, structured stories, and crafted plots, characters, and backstories. Hands-on activities included storyboarding and prototyping through puppet shows, board games, and pop-up books, empowering students to become skilled storytellers and enhancing their product design skills.
