Not a story about Sam!

Not a story about Sam!

Given LinkedIn seems to be awash with speculation about what happened on Friday...and I suspect it's mostly just that, speculation, I thought I'd do something completely not related to work or Sam (I'm sure you'll be glad to read!). Instead, all this story telling got me thinking about story time with my kids.

When my three boys were little, they loved story time and what they loved even more than me reading a book, was me making up a story. My eldest, when he was about 4 and didn't really have the words, used to point to my mouth and say "I want story from there" - it was very sweet. Now, after a long day at work and after a week of made up stories, if you are like me, your creative juices might start to dry up a little (I shamelessly 'borrowed' from movies and books that they had yet to experience). So I started to rely on a repeatable pattern, involving my boys as the protagonist and the 'magical' silver birch tree at the bottom of our garden...the boys would go on new adventures each time. I spun tales where this ordinary tree transformed into a portal to magical realms.

The tree served as a creative scaffold, providing a familiar yet infinitely versatile foundation upon which countless stories could be built. Each evening, as the day wound down, the Silver Birch tree would come alive in our imaginations, setting the stage for heroes and heroines, magical creatures, and epic adventures....but it was tough. I'm not that imaginative. Worried they'd get bored. Of course, they never did, but I worried nonetheless.

Nowadays though, we have an ace up our sleeves...GenAI. Our endlessly creative little helper...a well crafted prompt and you can summon up any sort of magical adventure to tell the kids. So with my recent fascination for creating GPT's, I thought I'd create something that reminded me of those days making up stories with the boys...and having tested it with my youngest, it was like transporting back in time, he loved it (even though he's now 10 and way too cool for stories with Dad!).

So, in a time where all we seem to talk about are all the perils of AI, I thought I'd share a few minutes of light relief.

I couldn’t open the link and now I feel ripped off! What happens this time in the tree?! My grandma used to do the same for me Lee but our tree was my bedroom window and Sandra a dolly who came to life when the parents slept was my consistent story guide. All adventures started sitting on the windowsill and flying to different worlds and stories ??
