The Story of a Reiz Scrum Master Academy Graduate

In today's fast-paced world, adaptability is key. Few roles embody this more than that of a Scrum Master. For those eager to embrace Agile methodologies and drive team success, Reiz Scrum Master Academy offers the perfect launchpad.

In this interview, we chat with Akvil? Katauskyt?-Burokien?, a Reiz Scrum Master Academy graduate who made the bold leap from education into the world of Scrum. She shares how the Academy helped her transform her career, the hands-on experience she gained, and how she’s thriving in her new role. Her story is an inspiring reminder of the power of stepping out of your comfort zone and seizing new opportunities!

Can you tell us a bit about your journey - what inspired you to apply to Reiz Scrum Master Academy?

I've always believed in the saying, "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude." This quote had been with me for years, but two years ago, it resonated differently. I realized it was time for a new challenge - a chance to step out of the education field and dive into something new and exciting. Initially, I considered taking some courses related to Agile, but then I discovered the Scrum Master Academy organized by Reiz Tech. I decided to take the leap, and now, here I am, celebrating a year already as a Scrum Master.

What part of the Academy did you enjoy the most, and why?

I enjoyed the hands-on workshops and real-world case studies the most. They provided an opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in a practical setting, which helped to boost my understanding of Scrum principles. The lecturers were also an essential part of the academy as you could feel their passion about the work and the subject they were presenting. Also, they were always welcoming questions and were extremely friendly and supportive.

Were there any challenges you faced during the Academy, and how did you overcome them?

Initially, it was overwhelming to absorb so much information. However, I overcame this by actively participating in group discussions, asking questions, focusing on the homework provided and live quizzes. The live tests among the participants were highly beneficial as we had a chance to check our understanding on the spot without having any time to look into the material or ask questions And overall, the supportive environment of the academy helped me gradually build confidence and integrate these new practices into my Scrum Master toolkit.

How did the Academy prepare you for your role as a Scrum Master? Are there specific skills or concepts you found particularly valuable?

All the topics covered in the academy were valuable and insightful, I can’t really specify one, though the main emphasis was on the Scrum Master's crucial role in fostering self- managed teams, guiding them to work collaboratively and efficiently. It reinforced the idea that when a team is empowered, aligned and have a trust-based environment, true synergy is achieved - turning teamwork into dream work.

How did you become a Scrum Master after finishing the Academy?

After finishing the Academy, becoming a Scrum Master felt like a natural step for me because the role was close to my heart. I’ve always valued collaboration, communication, and guiding teams - skills that align perfectly with what a Scrum Master does. I have been applying these soft skills in my previous position and I felt that being a Scrum Master is a chance to grow in a totally different environment. Eager to see if Scrum would work in practice, I pursued and passed the PSM I certification to validate my knowledge and readiness for the role. With my passion and preparation in place, I stayed open to opportunities and proposals that came my way, which eventually led to my first role as a Scrum Master.

Now that you’re working as a Scrum Master, how often do you find yourself applying what you learned from the Academy?

I apply what I learned from the Academy on a daily basis. Whether it's facilitating Scrum ceremonies, coaching the team on agile principles, or navigating team challenges, the skills and knowledge I gained are integral to my role. The Academy also taught me the importance of continuous learning, so I often revisit the concepts to refine my approach and adapt to the evolving needs of my team.

What advice would you give to talents who are considering applying to Scrum Master Academy?

My advice is to go for it with an open mind and a willingness to learn. The Academy offers a wealth of knowledge, not just about Scrum practices, but also about effective team collaboration and leadership. Be prepared to engage fully, participate in discussions, and learn from both successes and failures. It's an investment in your growth as a Scrum Master and will provide you with the tools to make a real impact in your teams.
