The Story Mob: Immersive entertainment lives here
The Story Mob
Communications consultancy for gaming culture, digital entertainment and esports
You think you know the Mob.
You may know our origin story as comms experts in the gaming and esports field, but here’s the scoop; over the last few years, we’ve been developing a crack team and a portfolio of projects that span the worlds of immersive entertainment, live events and more.?
Six years after our founding, we’re a crack squad across North America and Europe who understand the world of fan culture better than the majority of communication groups out there. Gaming culture doesn’t stop at the console or keyboard. It represents a wider gateway into digital fandom; fashion, music, art and entertainment. We excel in managing communications to fan communities typically resistant to marketing communications, as well as less-than-savvy wider mainstream and business audiences.?
Gaming culture is in our DNA, but this kind of unique entertainment experience doesn’t always start behind a console. Here’s some insight into some of our recent projects which step outside of esports - bringing live and immersive entertainment directly to fans.

The challenge: STURDY. has been visiting the iconic desert celebration of arts and music for years and for 2023 they levelled up their presence by creating their own?weekend-long immersive experience. Although not part of the official festival line-up, STURDY. wanted their Oasis experience to be a must-attend event for the highly influential Coachella crowd and leverage the IP to ultimately introduce STURDY. to new audiences.
Here’s what we did: Knowing we would be competing against some of the world’s best music talent for column inches, we leant heavily into the exclusive performances and DJ sets from the likes of James Blake, Young Miko and Austin Millz as well as the unique brand installations to put STURDY. firmly on the radar of entertainment media writing Coachella guides.
We invited the A-list Coachella crowd to the event, creating an air of exclusivity around the experience, with? talent such as Janelle Monae, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Scheana Shay stopping by STURDY. Oasis Hydrated by Liquid I.V. experience. On the ground, we managed the event experience for media, talent, partners and clients.?
Through Oasis, we solidified the creative agency’s position as an industry leader, settling benchmarks for innovation and creativity for brands and cultural moments in addition to artists.?

The challenge: BAFTA asked us to raise awareness of the 2023 BAFTA Games Awards with a special focus on reaching new games communities, as well as ensuring a heavy presence in the mainstream media to talk about the breadth of BAFTA’s work in the industry and its commitment to diversity and young developers. All while showing a playful side throughout.?
Here’s what we did: We designed and recruited the BAFTA Games Squad, a team of partnered Twitch streamers that represented different groups within gaming.
The awards nominations announcement was the perfect moment to get people engaged in conversation about their favourite games. So we deployed the BAFTA Games Squad to do what it does best: host a livestream on Twitch officially unveiling the BAFTA Games Awards nominees for 2023 (which included an appearance from Minecraft streamer Tubbo who was mid-way-through a 27-day subathon), and making full use of Twitch’s co-streaming function to take the awards to even more new games communities.
This announcement and more - including challenges like cosplay and speedruns - was supported by a hard-working press office where the team negotiated exclusive nominations, shortlist and winner reveals, placed interviews with senior BAFTA spokespeople to talk about the charity’s work in games, as well as working with BAFTA Fellowship honouree and industry pioneer Shuhei Yoshida to tell his story in games.

The Challenge: Creator and entrepreneur Ludwig Ahren’s Mogul Moves brand asked us to support his #Chessboxing event at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, CA for 5,000+ fans and a record breaking online audience of 280,000 viewers. The event saw other top content creators fight it out over the board and in the ring for glory.
Here's what we did: We developed a bespoke media activation strategy, and owned all media relations and outreach for this unique event at LA’s Galen Center, amplifying a moment in gaming and streaming history by positioning it as a new shift in pop culture, and how the internet is inspiring insane IRL spectacles.?
By leaning into Ludwig’s status as the biggest streamer on Twitch with an army of fans, the rise of online chess during the pandemic and how streamers are taking over the boxing world, we created the perfect storm with just enough WTF? about it to peak the interest of the entertainment and lifestyle media wanting to write about the latest thing.
