“Man plans, God laughs.”

I saw this written at the back of a roadtainer on Monday morning -? and I thought to myself how long it had been since I came across that saying.

At that moment, I had everything perfectly mapped out. Monday mornings are always for hitting the ground running, checking off the big priority tasks so the rest of the week feels lighter. Each day is always planned to the minute because who does not love to take charge and be in control?

But by Tuesday, the universe decided to test me. It hit me that I'd forgotten to reach out to the guest writer last week so we could start the editing process and have everything ready for today.

I sent them a text on WhatsApp and he responded with “Jesus Christ of Nazareth, how much time do I have?” Now… we can all agree that when someone says Jesus Christ and stops there, it means they are in a bit of distress. It’s totally different when they add of Nazareth. That’s an SOS call.

My carefully constructed plans crumbled in an instant. I could hear God laughing out loud.

In moments like these, it's tempting to panic or feel defeated. But instead, I took a deep breath and gave myself a moment to calm down. Once I was centered, I began to assess the situation. What exactly went wrong? What was my contribution to the failure? ?Could I salvage any part of my plan? It was time to shift from frustration to problem-solving.

The next step was flexibility. My original plan was no longer viable, so I had to adapt. I revisited my priorities and devised a new strategy. It wasn’t what I had envisioned, but it was a path forward, and that’s what matters most. I texted the guest writer back, giving him two more weeks to prepare and write his piece because creativity needs no rushing.

Then came the difficult part: communicating the change. I had to let people know that things weren’t going as planned. People like Mutuku come to my DM to ask for their right every time I fail at being consistent with my storytelling. Transparency, I’ve found, is essential in these situations.

I decided to reach out to my stakeholders, explain the issue, and lay out the new plan. I was honest about the challenges but also clear about the solutions.

Now, why am I telling you all this? Because, as fate would have it, you are the stakeholders I talk about in the above paragraph. The guest piece I had planned for you didn’t come through. Instead of leaving you empty-handed, I wanted to share this moral story - handling setbacks is not about being perfect; it’s about being adaptable, staying calm, and communicating openly.

Vanity Jamboree # eerrrr..... what number are we on?

Such a creative way of telling us that "Makosa imefanyika." Lovely lessons at the end.
