The story behind the deal: Q&A with Smithbucklin & 360 Live Media on the deal to oversee NPE: The Plastics Show 2024 & 2027

The back story: In August, NPE: The Plastics Show signed a seven-year deal with Smithbucklin and?360 Live Media to help take the show to the next level over the upcoming two show cycles starting with NPE2024 through NPE2027.

How did Smithbucklin and 360 Live Media close the deal for this mega-show? What are some of the challenges facing the triennial show that hasn’t met in-person since 2018? How do they plan to reimagine and modernize the show in a post-pandemic era?

To find out, I spoke with Thomas Myers , Senior Vice President of Sales Services at Smithbucklin, and Jack Macleod , President of 360 Live Media — both of whom were responsible for securing the NPE business and will provide executive oversight and strategy in executing the partnership.

Why it matters: When the last NPE was held in 2018, the show drew 55,800+ attendees and 2182 exhibitors covering 1 million+ square feet of exhibit space at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. For that show, Naylor provided exhibit and sponsorship sales services and mdg provided marketing services. The show ranked No. 6 on the Trade Show Executive Gold 100 Class of 2018.

Big picture: Under this new deal, PLASTICS chose to combine trade show sales, exhibitor service, attendee marketing, media planning, creative design and overall strategy support with one unified partner with the teams at Smithbucklin and 360 Live Media, which was acquired by Smithbucklin in 2018. Smithbucklin’s #tradeshow management portfolio includes International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) , a triennial baking industry show that returns to IRL Sept. 18-21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, and North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) , a foodservice show that attracts 22,000+ attendees and 500 exhibiting companies covering 300,000 nsf.
