The story of ‘’Audacious‘’ Temi and how he got 305 in JAMB
There are very few things that gets me trembling literally, and top of the list is hearing my African dad’s car honk from the gate while still in my Pyjamas playing video games.
I am a video game addict, and on this particular day, my lesson teacher called to reschedule lessons for a later date. This was the best news ever because my lesson days are my worst nightmares. All I get to do is attempt countless exercises and wait to be scored by my tutor and then reattempt the ones I missed. So, you can imagine my excitement when I got that call.
I quickly grabbed a glass of juice and decided to complete the round of game I had been itching to play since few days ago.
I was having the time of my life until I heard the car honk.
What? It's evening already?
With lightning speed, I changed into a fresh set of clothes without even taking a bath. I hurriedly packed up the game and arranged the chairs, trying to appear like a responsible child before my father walked in.
Unfortunately, I couldn't hide my bad breath, and somehow, this man could smell my unproductivity from a distance.
As he entered, he shook his head and uttered, "You're deceiving yourself, not me."
I was completely taken aback. How did he know?
Minutes later, he called me into his room for a chat. Before he could say anything, I defensively mentioned that today was supposed to be a free day since my teacher rescheduled.
He wasn't interested in excuses this time. He simply waved his hand, indicating that I should spare him the details. "That's not why I called you here," he said.
Then he asked me about my top three goals before the year runs out.
I fell silent for a moment and then proceeded to list them.
He burst into laughter, and as I looked perplexed, I asked if there was something amusing about my list.
He replied, "There's nothing wrong with your list, dear. It just shows that your priorities aren't in order."
In less than three months, you'll be sitting for JAMB. I would have thought that one of your goals would be to pass your JAMB exam with a specific score in mind.
My hand dropped, and I nodded meekly.
I began to feel uncomfortable, expecting him to lecture me about my lack of seriousness.
But that didn't happen.
He went on to ask me what I thought my JAMB score would be. With a proud face, I confidently said, "At least a 250."
"Nope, that's not good enough," he said. "I want you to aim higher and be audacious in your approach to achieving it."
"Okay," I replied, determined. "I will aim for a 300 in JAMB."
"Good," he said with a smile. "Now, I want you to make a list of your most difficult topics because I'm changing your tutor."
My face lit up because I wasn't particularly fond of my current tutor.
I followed his instructions, and the next week, he fulfilled his promise and got me a new tutor. I thought getting a new tutor was going to take a long time but it didn't. My dad discovered Tuteria online and was able to get me a new tutor fast with their help.
When I met my tutor, he was my perfect fit because he really understood me and spoke to my heart unlike my previous tutor who only gave me series of unending exercises to complete.
I was ready to face my challenging subjects head-on and pursue my desired score with the help of my tutor.
When the JAMB results were finally released, the first thing I did was give my dad a big hug. Then I proudly exclaimed, "I did it!"
I am grateful for the courage to be audacious about my dreams. I am still a die hard fan of video games though. However, I have learnt to set my priorities right.
My name is Temi, and this is my story!
