[Story No. 8] Freemason Abbey Helps Define Historic District

[Story No. 8] Freemason Abbey Helps Define Historic District

Imagine walking through two massive wooden doors, and then emerging into the late 1800's -- that's the atmosphere people get to enjoy at the corner of Freemason & Boush Streets. Freemason Abbey Restaurant first opened its doors in 1873 as a church, and then was converted to a restaurant in 1989. Since then, the downtown destination has offered a wide range of delicious menu options from soups, steaks, and salads, all the way to the more adventurous wild game nights.

209 West Freemason Street

When you pass through those double doors, and after you catch your breathe from the wonder of 19th century architecture -- take a couple quick steps to the right and you'll arrive at the quaint bar area. The rectangular space contains several antique looking wooden high top tables, and brick walled decor that creates the perfect ambiance for a pre-dinner drink or happy hour.

Side note... stop by between 4 and 7 PM for some of the best drink specials around, and be sure to try a cup of the delicious she crab soup. When you do eventually find your way to a table in the main dining area, look up... and you'll be rewarded with the sight of restored wooden beams and stained glass windows.

The culinary options are equally as impressive. Combining fresh ingredients, prepared just right, and then placed artistically onto blank white plates creates an Instagram dream -- and more importantly satisfied patrons night after night.

NEARBY MUSIC & THEATER VENUES

Whether a formal dinner, spur of the moment decision, or new spot to meet friends after work -- find your way to Freemason Abbey.
