Storm Look to Secure It's Long Term Future
Storm Geomatics Limited
"Measurement experts for projects that reduce flooding and improve environmental conditions in rivers."
As the world wakes up to the reality of climate change, sustainable business practices aren’t just an option—they’re a must-have.? Sustainability isn’t just a trend; it’s the future.? Companies today have a huge opportunity to lead the way by reducing their environmental impact, making eco-friendly choices, and creating products and services that respect our planet, provide good conditions for workers and provide fair pay and profits. It’s not only about being green but building trust, staying competitive, and future-proofing the business.?
One step that Storm have taken to securing their future is accreditation to the international standard ISO 14064-1:2018. This standard helps companies track, report, and reduce their carbon footprint. The standard supports two (Nos. 9 +13) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is a collection of 17 interlinked global goals that were adopted by all United Nations Member states in 2015 to provide a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”.??
The ISO was advised by Storms trusted ISO certifying body, Interface NRM who continue to guide the company through the evolving carbon reporting processes. Without the help of Interface NRM Storm would not have been able to complete the ISO as the standard is extremely complex to compute.
For Storm Geomatics, adopting ISO 14064-1:2018 is a solid move toward both environmental responsibility and brand credibility. By implementing this standard, Storm can accurately measure, track, and report greenhouse gas emissions, showcasing a commitment to sustainability that resonates with clients, partners, and the wider community. The process of tracking emissions has also uncovered ways to streamline operations, cut waste, and reduce energy costs—optimising how resources are used. With an increasing demand for sustainable practices in the water profession, Storm are standing out by having a formal system in place, potentially attracting more clients who value genuine eco-conscious companies that are perfectly aligned to their own values and standards.
Above all, by using ISO14064-1:2018 Storm can see how they can reduce their carbon footprint by analysing the report and focussing on the larger items to get the biggest wins. Changing from fossil fuel cars to fully electric is having the greatest impact. This investment will continue as the travelling range of electric cars is commonly topping 300 miles with a growing charging network to support the company’s fleet.
Another big addition to the cause was the introduction of solar panels on the roof of their office in Shipston on Stour, which produced 20.7% of the company’s energy at that office in the year 2023.
The long-term goal is to reduce their carbon emissions by 90% by 2030 and to also reduce their supply chain emissions. The company are looking for suppliers who are aligned to their standards and values when it comes to carbon accounting – all other companies need not apply!
