A severe winter storm pummelling Northern states is causing shipping delays across the entire country. An indirect impact of the storm that has several states locked down is that shipping coming from or going to those states has ground to a complete stop, as well.
The effect of the storm is far-reaching. Don’t think that just because your shipment’s route isn’t located in the affected area doesn’t mean you won’t feel delays because of it. A car carrier picking up for a run from Chicago to Los Angeles may be locked down in NY or NJ for days, unable to leave for Chicago until the roads clear.
That same car carrier may be picking up in Los Angeles to head to Miami, but that shipment next week will also be delayed because they could not leave NY or NJ today. We should all plan for the possibility of delays, even in areas not directly affected by the storm.
