We all have stories—narratives shaped by our experiences, external voices, and past moments that have left a lasting imprint. Some of these stories empower us, while others, often rooted in limiting beliefs, hold us back. The challenge is recognizing which narratives need rewriting and taking intentional steps to reclaim our truth.
The Origins of Our Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs don’t emerge from nowhere. As I reflected on my own journey during the Courageous Clarity Journal Challenge, I traced a deeply ingrained belief about my worth back to an experience in my childhood. I had won a pageant, yet instead of celebration, I heard the murmurs of disappointment from family members who believed someone else should have won. I was only 11 years old, and that moment shaped the way I viewed my own achievements for decades.
This realization was profound: my belief that I was never quite worthy didn’t originate within me. It came from external influences—school, church, extended family, society. The voices of others had become my inner dialogue, subtly dictating my self-perception and decisions.
The Power of Reflection and Rewriting
Recognizing the source of our limiting beliefs is the first step in rewriting them. It’s not enough to simply recite affirmations; we must dig deep and do the work.
For me, this meant acknowledging the pain of that childhood experience rather than downplaying it. I had to ask myself:
These reflections led to a powerful realization: My limiting belief made me second-guess every accomplishment, question my worth, and even accept offers that were not aligned with my true value.
