Stories of Hope | November 2024

Stories of Hope | November 2024

During the last month we joined forces with 14 charities to launch the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. If you’ve been able to support this appeal, I want to offer you my heartfelt thanks. Because of your generous gifts, we’ve been able to respond quickly.

Our established partners in Gaza and Lebanon are deeply rooted in their communities and have therefore been the first responders to this crisis; providing medical relief and food, shelter, sanitation and cash. In Lebanon, our partner Najdeh is providing essential support to those who have fled airstrikes in the south, primarily at the affected camps. They are distributing mattresses, blankets, food parcels and other necessities. And they run a community centre in the camp that serves around 500 children, offering sports and arts classes, as well as counselling.

It is more important than ever we join in prayers for peace and stand together with our global neighbours.

We continue to witness the terrible impact of floods in Spain. The drastic change in climate is affecting so many people around the world which is why upcoming UN climate talks known as COP29 are so important. The civil society organisations we work with want to see a new deal on climate finance to support countries on the frontline of the climate crisis.

In November 2024, Christian Aid provided key updates on its humanitarian and advocacy work. In collaboration with 14 other charities, they launched the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal, responding quickly to the crisis in Gaza and Lebanon. Local partners like Najdeh in Lebanon have been critical in delivering food, shelter, and psychosocial support, particularly for children in refugee camps. The organization also emphasized the urgent need for climate finance at COP29, advocating for a new global deal to support the countries most affected by climate change. During its Annual Lecture, Philippe Sands, an international human rights lawyer, discussed the complexities of addressing genocide and crimes against humanity. Christian Aid also marked Black History Month by focusing on reclaiming Black narratives, highlighting the power of storytelling to challenge stereotypes. Looking ahead, Christian Aid should continue strengthening local partnerships for sustainable aid, prioritize climate finance advocacy at COP29, and work to elevate diverse voices for greater social justice. #ChristianAid #MiddleEastCrisis #ClimateJustice #COP29 #HumanRights #BlackHistoryMonth #ReclaimingNarratives #SocialJustice #ClimateFinance
