Stories from the Fort – Mayowa
A friend of mine who had relocated to Canada about a year ago intimated to me about a challenge she had faced a while ago. This friend (let’s call her Mayowa so she won’t sue me) got admitted to study for her MBA. Mayowa was raised by a single mum who is a principal in a government secondary school in Taraba State. Mother’s Day was approaching and she wanted to get something special for her. Her mum loved jewelry, so she knew she’d like a beautiful piece as a gift. While scrolling through IG one day, she found a very beautiful necklace and decided to go check the page out properly, alas! they had really cool jewelry. She checked to see their location and it said Lagos. Oh no! Mayowa had trust issues but it’s something special for her mother, right? so she decided to take the risk.
The jewelry was to be delivered to her at home in Taraba state (well, that’s easy. Nothing GIG logistics cannot handle). Mayowa contacted the vendor who confirmed that they do deliveries nationwide. Well, she really wanted to do the mother’s day surprise, she decided to take the risk and pay for the jewelry (about NGN54,000). The payment was confirmed. She gave them the address and phone number of her mum and told them she wanted it to be a surprise. Delivery was slated to be complete over the weekend (latest on Saturday)! Mother’s Day was on Sunday. After getting a guarantee from the vendor, Mayowa went back to face her school activities. On Saturday She called to confirm if the delivery had been completed, the vendor assured her that it was in progress so she waited hoping she’d get a call from her mother about the awesome surprise. When she called a day after mothers day, her mum hadn’t received any parcel so she contacted the vendor but couldn’t get through to her, sent several messages and called out the vendor on IG. Many others commented saying they have had the same or similar experiences with the same vendor and others also.
If only she had used Paylidate to make her payment, if only they had all used Paylidate, their money would have still been intact, and only vendors that are credible and accountable would agree to accept payments with Paylidate and that says a lot about them and also about the role Paylidate plays in protecting everyone’s interest during a transaction.
Mayowa made that payment from her savings, every year online shoppers lose money through direct bank transfers to Instagram, Twitter, and even Facebook vendors. Paylidate seeks to ensure that every social transaction is healthy, unbiased, and fulfills its purpose so that online shoppers and vendors alike would not have to go through experiences as Mayowa did.
