IT Stories: From Expert ambassador in IT best practices.
It was upon a time in which I was working in an assessment for a new project and a new client, but it was not the first time that I have heard about the CIO′s character about the urgency projects.
In the gossip corridor everybody said that the problem in every project was not the project, but the pression and the bad practices were the tramp in which everything was stuck...
I understood everything in the first meeting, the team project has stablished 6 months in the early estimation, but the Stakeholder and IT director said 3 months, no more, the reason was, this was critic to take advantage on the market share, so that, the critic route was ignored and the risk assessment too. The result was a big fail project...
Hide Lessons in that time:
1. Critic route and risk assessment should be part of the time frame project.
2. IT Leadership shall be essential in business commitments, especially in those who be part of Balance Score Card strategy.
3. Every enterprise needs to stablish a best practices framework and follow it.
4. The project needs to be understood and signed as a strategic plan, with financial, human and technologies resources in order to get the right product for the CLIENT.
5. The product was not that the Stakeholder has asked, and the final user was upset, because the product was not that they needed.
IT is an amazing player in the business strategy, the CIO has an important role not only in the IT field, he has impact in whole organization activities, so that needs to be an excellent ambassador of IT department an explain the importance that every activity has into the projects.
“Obviously, it has not happened in the business life”
But How I resolved that, well that is another story...
