Google "Top 10 psychologists in Singapore." Go. Try it.
From the google search, you may get results similar to this in the below picture.
Question is: How do we know if they are the best psychologists in Singapore? What is the matrix of measuring who is "Best in Singapore"? Who is even measuring it?
I guess it all depends on the writers at the website. At least one of the websites considered the credentials, experience, scope of services, and client satisfaction.
So why are Psychologists chasing these accolades, awards, and achievements?
First and foremost, you will notice that these listed psychologists are all psychologists from the private sector. None are from the public or government-related sectors, e.g. hospitals, ministries, statutory boards, etc.
Does it means that public psychologists are not as good, without all these accolades, awards, and achievements?
On the contrary, some public psychologists also do receive awards and accolades. However there is no requirement to make a big statement about it most of the time.
However, it is totally different for private psychologists.
Like all other consumer services, good marketing of the service, organisation or practitioner equals to more bookings or sales of the product or service.
Hence it is totally favourable for private psychologists to be market themselves or their services through websites, social media, or even traditional media!
Marketing is a totally great skill to learn and equip yourself with, if you are planning to come in the psychology industry. Perhaps you can even consider to have a minor in Marketing?
