The Store

You enter through a glass door that leads into an open room. Softly lit with wood floors that cleanly meet white walls, the space seems to naturally displace tension or challenges that accompany you at this moment in time.

In the middle of the room atop a blue rug are a coffee table, two chairs, and a white display table. The intention of this store plays out right here in this area.

At the back of the room is a red door. Hanging on the door is a white sign of caution that reads, “The Noise.” While this door was never a part of the original design, it can not be removed.

Outside forces cause the door to rattle and shake. So, the store’s keeper places extra care to small details that help return your attention to the purpose of being here.

On the display table are the store’s three featured products, each of which are easily accessible from where you and I sit:

1) A blue notebook with the word, “Simple,” across the front. This product encourages and frames deeper reflection.

2) A white box with the word, “Less,” on each of its sides. This product delineates the very few life components that matter most from the many that seek to distract.

3) A clock with no numbers nor hands — just the word, “Slow,” across clock’s face. This product expands the boundaries of our most precious resource.

The store’s keeper continually tests and refines each of these products in the Pyrenees Mountains. Then, after undeniable proof of their success, he packages them with compassion and gratitude.

The beauty of these products is that each one perfectly adapts to the user who chooses to try them.

The three products may not immediately solve your problem. But, when used every day, they provide a powerful and proven framework to move, change, and evolve.

The most challenging part of the store’s design is the departure. Upon exiting the store, people often leave through the red door in the back.

So every Sunday morning, the store sends out a reminder that you do not have to leave through the red door.

Instead, you can simply choose to start again through the same door that led you here.

With gratitude,

-Joe
