STOP! Are You Submitting Your CVs Like This?

I often come across posts on LinkedIn aimed at helping job seekers. These posts share lists of email addresses and encourage people to submit their CVs or reach out to recruiters directly. I get it, this is coming from a good place, a genuine desire to help. But I can’t help but feel that this approach might be doing more harm than good. Let me explain why.

When hundreds, if not thousands, of job seekers flood these email addresses, what are the chances that each one will get proper attention? Practically, it's impossible for someone managing that email to go through so many CVs, let alone respond thoughtfully. Most emails will be ignored, and the effort invested by job seekers will feel wasted.

On top of that, this traffic can overwhelm company email systems. The server load increases, email storage fills up, and, in many cases, the email ID might get deactivated entirely. That’s why so many job seekers end up seeing their emails bounce back with delivery failure messages.

So, what’s a better way? Instead of sharing long lists of email addresses publicly, consider this approach:

  • Share a post saying, “I have compiled email addresses of potential recruiters who are hiring. If you’re interested, message me, and I’ll share details relevant to your profile.” This way, only genuinely interested people will reach out to you, and you can filter and personalize your help.

Additional Suggestions for Job Seekers

  1. Be Strategic: Rather than mass-emailing generic CVs, focus on tailoring your application to specific roles. A targeted approach has higher chances of success.
  2. Leverage LinkedIn: Many recruiters are actively sourcing candidates here. Engage with their posts, comment thoughtfully, or message them with a brief introduction and your interest in their open roles.
  3. Network Wisely: Build meaningful connections. A referral from someone in the company is often more effective than sending a CV to a general inbox.
