Stop trying to find your purpose, start living your life!

Stop trying to find your purpose, start living your life!

If you follow enough wanky well-being influencers, I'm sure you'll be familiar with the phrase "Find Your Purpose," as if it's the secret sauce to resolve all the problems you'll ever face.

Now, there is no doubt that having a purpose in life is a wonderful thing. It gives life meaning, helps you get up in the morning, and can guide you through some challenging times.

But finding it??

Well, that can often feel like a burden—much like when we were young, trying to answer that god-awful question, "What do you want to do with your life when you leave school?"?

Now, generally, purpose tends to be found in one of three ways:

  1. Caring/supporting/looking after someone/something else.
  2. Stretching yourself in pursuit of an intrinsic goal.
  3. Believing there is more to life than what currently appears; following a religion/spirituality.

But often, these things can feel elusive when you've yet to encounter anything within those three categories that really matter to you.

So what do you do then?

Well, fortunately for you, I'm a big believer in making things simple when it comes to our mental and emotional well-being.?

So here are 5 day-to-day things, that will can not only give you purpose, they'll keep you well, healthy and happy, most of the time.

1. Look after your body:??

I know most of us have a love/hate relationship with our bodies. But given it's the only one you've got. Look after it!

Sleep well, eat well, exercise right, rest right, get sunlight, and drink plenty of water. Basically all the stuff you know you should do but mostly neglect because you've been led to believe the secret is in some Wim Hof breathing technique or something else completely useless unless you get the basics right.

2. Spend time with family/friends (who are not arseholes):?

Humans are social species. We all need good people around us.?

Yes, I know over recent years people will wrongly tell you that you don't need the validation of others. But that's just something idiots say.?

The truth is having people and building relationships with people who see you as you are and who you can count on to share the good and bad times with, even if that's all you have, can really make life worth living.

3. Have some fun:?

Life is a collection of experiences. And one day you are going to look back on your life and say "I'm so happy I skipped that night out with my friends to listen to that Jay Shetty podcast and fill in my gratitude journal" NOT!?

Most of us put off living because we believe that at some point in the future, we'll have the freedom to live.

Well, NEWS FLASH for you!

YOU ARE FREE NOW!?

Make sure you are scheduling some fun!

4. Manage your money:?

Yes, I know you are looking for your dream job but I'm sorry, waiting around for that isn't going to pay the bills and help you afford the things that allow you to enjoy yourself now.?

Sometimes you are not going to find meaningful employment. That's why you have to find meaning TO your employment.?

What does that mean??

Well, what does it get for you??

Is it keeping a roof over your head, paying for that holiday you are looking forward to, or helping you fund a course that will maybe help you find a better career??

No, this isn't me advocating you stay in jobs that destroy your mental health. But it is me making you aware that having money to ensure you can live is better than the stress of not having enough.

5. Learn about something that interests you:?

All humans have the need to feel like they are growing in a direction they want to go in. And there is no better way to do this than to learn a subject, a skill, a hobby that you have a genuine interest in.?

I know that sounds obvious but I cannot tell you how many people try and learn stuff they believe they SHOULD learn or are told they SHOULD learn only to find it bores them to tears'.

At the end of the day, Life is hard enough without the added stress of trying to figure out why you are on this planet.

So if you want to give life some meaning whilst you are waiting for God or whoever to tap you on the shoulder and tell you "You should do that!"

Live your life now by focusing on the simple day to day things that can make life very much worth living!

????? So much this ???? "Have some fun. You are free now." ?? To me, purpose is IN the living, being, doing. Effortful, purposeful action, even if those are baby steps.
