STOP THINKING SMALL!

Dear Global Star?,

I had a classmate Blessing (Not her real name) in secondary school (High School) who had the habit of always thinking and talking small. From her words and actions, you could notice that she didn’t want to have anything to do with thinking past her present. ?

?

At that time during our prep (I attended an all-girls’ boarding school), we would talk about the universities of our choice, what we wanted to become and even how rich and influential we wanted to be.

But you won’t find her there.

?

At first, I wanted to mind my business but I felt the need to speak with her. I talked to her about her own aspirations and tried to inspire her to aim high as well. But my she would always brush it off, saying that she was happy with her life the way it was.

?

I knew blessing was capable of so much more that meets the eyes, she would give up opportunities to be part of inter-school competitions that she knew she could Ace without much preparation. I couldn’t really place what was holding her back.

?

One day while at the dinning, blessing opened up to me saying that “she had always been afraid of failure”. She didn't want to take risks or try new things because she was afraid of not succeeding.

?

Her mindset was playing games with her but over time with support and encouragement, Blessing’s mindset began to shift. She started to see that there was so much more to life than just being afraid to fail. She began to do things she ordinarily won’t do.

?

Why this long story right?

?

Many of us have been conditioned to think small. We are told to be realistic and to settle for less than what we truly deserve.

But I am here to tell you that this kind of thinking is not only limiting but also damaging to our potential.

?

When we think small, we limit ourselves and our abilities. We stay in our comfort zone and don't take calculated risks or push ourselves to achieve more. We convince ourselves that we are not capable of achieving greatness, and as a result, we never even try.

But the truth is, we are all capable of achieving incredible things. It's just a matter of believing in ourselves and our abilities. We need to stop thinking small and start thinking big.

Of course, thinking big is not easy. It requires courage, perseverance, and a willingness to fail. But the rewards are immense. When we think big, we unlock our true potential and achieve things we never thought possible just like my friend.

As you close today’s “Shine Your Light” letter, I urge you to stop thinking small and start thinking big. Believe in yourself and your abilities that is seen through God’s capabilities. Set audacious goals and pursue them relentlessly. Take risks and step out of your comfort zone. And most importantly, never give up on your dreams.
