STOP For A Successful Career Transition
Career transition can be stressful, scary and a time of significant turbulence. Losing your job - or disliking your career - can have far reaching consequences that have negative impacts across all areas of life.
However, it is important to remember that, regardless of the stage you are at in your career, it is NEVER too late to change direction and pursue a career and life that is authentic to you, your strengths, your interests and your purpose.
A tool that can really help in finding a career that is a right fit for you (and help you achieve any goals that you have) is the STOP model, pioneered by Timothy Gallwey.
STOP is an acronym that stands for:
- Step back
- Think
- Organise your thoughts before you
- Proceed
This model is not rocket science, but ask yourself the question "how often do I actually do it?"
Taking a STOP helps you to reflect on what is working and what isn’t so that you can then plan for the future.
Write down some of your thoughts on what you really WANT in your career and life so that it is engaging, fulfilling, delivers true enjoyment and is authentic to who you really are!
So don't put it off. Go to your diary and book an appointment with yourself entitled “STOP” in the next 7 days and you will be on your way to mapping out the future you want.
