Stop and See the Leaves

Well, 2020 isn't what anybody expected. You probably have missed family, friends, vacations, life milestones, holidays, travel, restaurants, haircuts and maybe even some of those less favorite coworkers.
It's easy to focus on things we've missed and I have missed all of those things. But, this season has also made me realize a few others things I've missed. I missed how beautiful the neighborhood's foliage is during the fall as this is the time of year that I can leave for work before it's light and get home well after dark. I missed the wildlife in my backyard, the usual birds, squirrels and chipmunks, but also deer, fox, hawk and owl. (Although, I might not miss the Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom moments when all of those collide.) I missed taking off a fall day and driving through Shenandoah National Park. I missed puzzles (22 since COVID started, but who's counting?).
I know this isn't everyone's experience and I thank all medical professionals and those in essential businesses. But, when you can, take a few moments to see what you've missed, and whatever season you're in, find its joy.
Stop and smell the roses.
Stop and slowdown, simplify the holidays.
Stop and see the leaves.
