Stop Scrolling and Start Microlearning

Have you ever looked down at your phone to watch a video or check your socials only to look up and realise you’ve just been looking at your phone for an hour or more? Microlearning is rapidly trending as we all seek to make better choices over how we spend our time.

What is Microlearning?

In an attention economy where everyone is fighting for your time, it’s so easy to get sucked in and waste precious time reading and watching things that don’t add value to your life. No wonder microlearning is becoming a new trend.

This new approach to learning involves small, focused units of educational content and is characterised by specific bite-sized pieces of information or skills that can be understood and applied in a short amount of time.

According to LinkedIn research* 63% of millennials and 58% of Gen Zers want to learn a new skill but don’t feel they have the time. Microlearning could be part of the answer.

Why not use the small pieces of time in your day to learn something new or develop a skill? And even better, avoid the temptation of one more click by getting your hands busy with a needlecraft.

Why Needlecraft is Ideal for Microlearning

Microlearning is ideal for learning a new craft like embroidery. Projects are often small and portable. Slip one into your bag and take it with you wherever you go. Then in an idle moment, or whenever you need a break you can learn a new stitch or practise one you already know to build your skills.

Does Microlearning Work?

By breaking down complex topics into smaller, manageable units, microlearning aims to enhance retention and engagement. It is a flexible approach that you can mould to suit your life. Perhaps your work commute means you are waiting at a bus stop or sitting on a train, or maybe you find yourself waiting in the car for your kids to finish school or an after-school club. You could use that time to learn a relaxing craft instead of doom-scrolling or watching nonsense.

Because the units of learning are short you can repeat them to increase the amount you retain. This is an especially good habit when learning needlecraft because repetition will help you really master a technique.
