Stop Saying, “I’m Not Political." You Already Are.

Stop Saying, “I’m Not Political." You Already Are.

Oh honey, let’s get real for a second.

I hear it all the time:

?? “Oh, I’m not political.”

→ (As if politics is some optional side dish instead of the main course that feeds every aspect of your life.)

?? “Let’s keep this about business, not politics.”

→ (As if the business exists in a magical vacuum, untouched by government policies, hiring laws, wages, or, I don’t know, the economy itself?)

?? “Why can’t people just get along and stop making everything about politics?”

→ (Translation: I don’t want to be uncomfortable, and I certainly don’t want to confront my privilege.)

?? “I don’t watch the news; it’s all biased.”

→ (A convenient excuse to stay uninformed while the world keeps spinning without your input.)

?? TRUTH BOMB: Everything is political.

?? The taxes taken from your paycheck? Political.

?? The roads you drive on? Political.

?? Whether your paycheck keeps up with inflation? Political.

?? The price of gas, eggs, and rent? Political.

?? Who gets hired, who gets promoted, and who gets to speak up at work? Political.

?? The air you breathe, the water you drink? Political.

?? The laws determine who can marry, who can vote, and who has control over their body. ALL POLITICAL.

So, when someone says, “I just wish people would stop making everything political,” what they’re saying is:

?? I don’t want to think about it.

?? I don’t want to be uncomfortable.

?? I’m fine with things the way they are.

And let’s be crystal clear: that’s a choice. A political one.

Listen, I get it. People want to believe they can keep their personal lives separate from politics. That politics is some distant, messy game played in Washington. But let’s not kid ourselves. Politics is the air we breathe. It’s the world we live in. And pretending otherwise doesn’t make you neutral it just makes you complicit.

Even in the workplace where people love to say “Keep politics out of it” politics is baked into everything:

?? Your salary? Political.

?? Who lands leadership roles? Political.

?? Whether your company actually values diversity or just virtue-signals about it? Political.

Choosing not to engage doesn’t make you “above politics.” It just means you’re so comfortable with how things are that you don’t feel the need to challenge them. And if you’re comfortable? That probably means someone else isn’t.

So instead of pretending politics is some faraway drama, ask yourself:

?? What do I value?

?? What kind of world do I want to live in?

?? How do my choices my votes, my voice, and my actions shape that world?

Because like it or not, you’re already participating.

The real question is: Are you doing it on purpose?

?? Drop your thoughts below. Let’s talk. ??
