Stop Quitting on Yourself: How to Finally Make Changes That Last

Stop Quitting on Yourself: How to Finally Make Changes That Last

We're a Week into 2025

How are you feeling?

Are you energized and ready to take on the world?

Or are you already feeling overwhelmed, swimming in the same old stress and anxiety that’s been following you around for longer than you’d care to admit?

If 2024 didn’t turn out the way you hoped, you’re not alone. The word on the LinkedIn street is that 2024 was tough for a lot of women.

The economy was GREAT… but also awful. The employment rates were incredible… but there were layoffs. We FINALLY started talking more about balancing work and home… but we’re still stuck in a cycle of overworking, under-earning, and trying to be everything to everyone.

If you’re back in the office, balancing a demanding career, a busy family calendar, and trying to prioritize time for yourself, it makes sense that the sparkle and excitement of the new year might already be fading.

Here’s the good news: 2025 doesn’t have to be a repeat of last year.

Why We Quit on Ourselves

If you’ve struggled to stick to your goals in the past and feel it happening again this year, it’s not because you’re lazy, broken, or unmotivated. Your brain is wired to do what is familiar, even when you don't like the results.

Here are three common reasons people start losing motivation and struggle to stick to resolutions:

  • All or Nothing Thinking: Missing one workout or making one mistake feels like failure, so why bother trying again?
  • No Accountability: You thought you could handle it solo, but as life returns to its usual busyness, focus fades, and it feels easier to quit. After all, no one will notice except you, right? (Sigh.)
  • Overreliance on Willpower: Motivation disappears when things get uncomfortable, and suddenly the goal feels unimportant and out of reach..

How to Make Changes That Last

If you’re serious about making changes, you need a plan that works for you. And that starts with getting comfortable being uncomfortable.

(Not what you wanted to hear is it.... Keep reading.)

Growth and change aren’t always easy, especially when your brain is doing everything it can to keep you in your comfort zone. But if you expect change to feel awkward at first, they become familiar so you're prepared and can reframe those feelings as signs of progress.

Next, set realistic goals. You don’t need to overhaul your entire life in a week: New Year’s resolutions are for the year. Start with one small, achievable step to build momentum without overwhelming yourself.

Find someone to hold you accountable. Whether it’s a coach (like me!), a coworker you trust, or a friend, having support keeps you motivated and helps you stay on track when you’re tempted to give up.

Celebrate your wins, no matter how small. Spoke up for what you wanted for lunch? Celebrate! Left work at 5:20 instead of 5:30? You’re closer to 5:00 than before—celebrate that too!

Remember that setbacks aren’t failures. They’re normal. They’re lessons. They’re how you figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what to tweak for next time.

And don’t forget to take care of yourself. If you want the mental and emotional bandwidth to succeed, self-care is non-negotiable. Taking care of your body, mind, and spirit is required for long term success.

When you focus on these things, making real, lasting change becomes simpler, easier, and faster.

Why Coaching Is a Game-Changer

I coach high achieving women to manage stress and anxiety so they feel confident, calm, and in control. Together, we create balance, shift focus, and find the success you’ve been looking for without the mind drama. With less stress and more energy, life gets a whole lot more fun.

When we work together, you’ll:

  • Build confidence and get clear on your values.
  • Develop customized strategies tailored to your life and challenges.
  • Create new habits and mindsets that stick.
  • Stay motivated with accountability and encouragement, even when things get tough.

Make 2025 the Year You Go All In on Yourself

Today is a clean slate, even if you’ve already ditched your word of the year or your resolution. It’s time to ask for help, commit to yourself, and prove that you’ve got what it takes.

(Because you totally do!)

You don’t have to figure it all out alone. I’m here to help you stay focused, calm, and confident while you achieve the goals that are important to you.
