Stop Pitching Meeting Planners This Way. Do THIS instead...
Cindy Khoury Ashton
Not closing enough sales, converting presentations & speaking on prominent stages? It’s NOT a sales problem (Read my “aboutâ€). Speak from Your Power? Strategist & Trainer | Award-Winning TV Host, Singer/Actor
You see a conference or event coming up that you want to speak for. You are super excited. You create your pitch. You send off the pitch to the meeting planner or fill out the submission form and then… crickets. You hear nothing.
Why is that? What happened?
The first thing to understand is that conference organizers get a crazy amount of speaker's pitching them. It is overwhelming as well as frustrating because the majority of those pitches aren't very good. It’s a waste of their time. They may even black ball if you if you send them a bad pitch.
The top 3 biggest problems with the majority of pitches are:
?There is no hook. The hook is that subject line that is going to grab their attention so they actually want to open the e-mail and read what you have to say.
?The e-mail is too long. Think about it: Do you want to read long emails?
?The pitch is all about you, your story and your credentials.
How do you craft a good pitch through land speaking engagements?
?Thoroughly research the event. What the event is about? Who is the audience? What is the purpose? What do they want their audience to learn and experience? Etc.

?After completing your research, reflect on your expertise and how your expertise can truly serve their audience.
?Once you know those two pieces, you can then craft a pitch that shows how you are going to customize a presentation that is relevant to THEM. (And yes, you do weave in your credentials but it's HOW position it that makes the difference between a yes or no).
?Create a catchy subject line, that hook that is going to grab their attention so that they open and read your e-mail or your submission. Be sure to keep your submission less than 200 words.
If you do all of the above, the meeting planner will most likely review your submission. Even if you're not the right fit that time, they will respect you because you haven't wasted their time. They may even keep you on file for the next time they are looking for speakers.
P.S. The majority of meeting planners are not actually the ones actually deciding who gets to speak on the stage and who doesn't. Often, you need to get through them to get to the decision makers.
