Stop overthinking your content
Momentum creates more momentum. When you publish your first piece of content, the next one becomes easier and faster. You don’t get clarity on day one—it comes with time. The key is to start publishing, and the rest will follow. In fact, this video is just me following my own advice.
If you prefer watching a video over reading, you can watch the video above. I speak the same things I have written above.
Welcome to Permissionless Creators! In today’s episode, we’re diving into the habit of publishing content, the common obstacles that stop us from starting, and what can help you get better at it.
If you’re just starting your content creation journey, your first goal should be to build the habit of publishing—not to find your niche, not to build an audience, and definitely not to go viral. Your focus should be on building that content creation muscle.
Why Do We Overthink Content Creation?
Whenever we decide to start creating content, we often get stuck in overthinking:
The truth is, none of this matters if you don’t publish.
You can’t develop your content creation skills without first developing the habit of publishing consistently.
So, Where Do You Start?
The best place to start is the path of least resistance.
Should you create videos or written content? The answer is simple: choose what’s easiest for you. If recording a quick selfie video feels natural, then do that. If writing is your thing, then start writing. Whether it's short tweets or long blogs—stick to what feels easiest.
If you’re creating videos, should you edit them? If you have time, go ahead and edit. If not, publish them raw and unedited. The important thing is to publish.
Wondering what to write or talk about? Just start with what’s on your mind right now. The key is to do what requires the least time and energy—especially in the beginning.
I’ve been creating content for over 10 years, and only now do I feel comfortable talking on camera. So remember, it’s a process!
When you’re just starting out, it doesn’t really matter what the audience thinks. What matters is what works for you.
Find the path of least resistance that helps you create and publish content.
In fact, it’s a good thing if your early content doesn’t get much engagement. You don’t want a huge audience while you’re still figuring out your message.
Building Momentum
Once you start publishing, you’ll notice momentum building in different areas of your life.
This is how you begin to find your message.
And here’s the truth: a message that resonates with your audience starts with a message that resonates with you.
The only way to find that message is to express your thoughts and publish them.
You won’t get clarity by thinking alone. Every time I felt confused or unsure, it wasn’t the thinking that gave me clarity—it was expressing my thoughts through content creation.
When you turn your ideas into content, you’re forced to structure your thoughts. And when you publish it, you release those ideas into the world to stand on their own. They might soar or they might flop, but either way, you get feedback. You learn and improve with every piece you publish.
And here’s the best part: by publishing, you’re already 10 steps ahead of anyone who hasn’t started.
My only message for you is simple: start publishing today. Even if it’s just a single line of text in the comments, that’s a great start.
Let me know what’s stopping you from publishing in the comments below, and I’ll be happy to help you get over that hurdle.
