Stop Overthinking and Start Doing!

Stop Overthinking and Start Doing!

I am the king of overthinking:)

If it's a big item that needs a decision, then I'm your guy.?

I was joking with my father-in-law the other day that if they ever give me power of attorney and it was time to "pull the plug" on him, let me make the decision?

However, if I had to pick the color of the coffin, I would struggle.?

This became apparent to me when my wife and I bought our first house 20 years ago.? I realized I didn't like the idea of working to make those mortgage payments for the next few decades too.

One day while she was out running errands,?I had this big idea that I was going to retire by the age of 50 but couldn't quite figure out how to do it.?

So, I sat down at my desktop computer and created a spreadsheet to figure out how much money I would need to retire by 50.

I worked my way backward and came up with a plan to invest in rentals to earn enough money to achieve my goal.?

However, after we had kids and made a few extra mortgage payments, I started overthinking my plan and didn't follow through with it.

If I had followed through, I could have retired by now.

Overthinking doesn't just apply to personal decisions; it affects small business decisions too.

I love setting goals and writing notes on how to achieve them, but I tend to overthink every aspect of the process.

We have to quit doing that!

In this episode, I cover:

  1. Overthinking can paralyze both significant and trivial decision-making processes.
  2. It's essential to set clear, achievable goals and identify actionable steps to move forward.
  3. Embracing discomfort is crucial in overcoming the inertia of overthinking.
  4. Not everyone is watching or judging your every move; it's okay to make mistakes and learn from them.
  5. Simplify your approach: focus on what's important and let go of perfectionism to make progress.

To get more done, you sometimes have to be okay with not doing everything perfectly.

p.s.

Don't miss out on any more precious time with family, because you are an overthinker too!
